Role Overview
The SVP, Credit & Risk leads all aspects of credit risk for a commercial equipment finance lender. This executive will build credit policy, oversee underwriting and portfolio quality, and manage risk across a diverse set of equipment assets and industry verticals.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Policy:
Develop and maintain credit standards and risk appetite for equipment leasing and lending.
Underwriting Oversight:
Approve or reject large/complex deals; review exceptions beyond standard models or guidelines.
Portfolio Risk:
Monitor asset concentrations, sector exposures, and collateral values; run stress tests and portfolio analytics.
Asset & Industry Expertise:
Assess risks specific to equipment types (construction, ag, transport, renewables, etc.) and borrower segments.
Model & Process Innovation:
Work with data, tech, and product teams to improve automated/AI-driven credit models and digital workflows.
Secondary Market & Trading Risk:
Oversee asset sales/participations and manage risk for any trading desk activity.
Compliance & Covenants:
Ensure adherence to lender requirements, funding partner covenants, and regulatory standards.
Team Leadership:
Build, develop, and lead a team of credit and risk professionals.
Qualifications
10+ years in equipment finance, asset-based lending, or commercial credit risk.
Deep understanding of asset-based underwriting and collateral valuation.
Experience with automated credit models or fintech underwriting tools.
Strong portfolio management and stress testing skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead a credit/risk function in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of institutional funding and warehouse lines is a plus.
Proven leadership in building and developing teams.
Preferred Experience
Secondary market asset sales or trading.
Background in tech-enabled or high-growth lending environments.
Ability to translate analytics and data insights into practical credit policy.
