    About the position:

    SWA Group is seeking talented candidates who are interested in design research related to urban development, landscape architecture, and infrastructure in US cities. This is an internship through SWA's XL Lab and is open to degree candidates or recent graduates in landscape architecture, urban design, and/or planning. Strong visual representation and GIS skills are required. Animation, graphic design, and/or exhibition design experience is a plus. This position is 40 hours per week for three months from mid-May through mid-August and is based in Boston. The role will require limited domestic US travel (10-20% of the time). Candidates must be comfortable traveling unaccompanied within the US and must be dependable when working with other SWA offices. Possession of a valid US driver's license is strongly preferred. Compensation is hourly. 

    Working with us in this role, you may be responsible for:

    3D Modeling

    Creating 2D/3D Drawings and Diagrams

    Producing presentation graphics 

    GIS mapping and analysis

    Animation of maps or diagrams

    Rendering

    Exhibition design

    Attending and participating in meetings

    Fieldwork to gather firsthand or archival data

    Working with senior designers on a collaborative team

    Job Location: Boston.  Limited travel to other cities within the US.

    Requirements:

    • Enrolled student status or recent graduates from a professional undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited program in landscape architecture, planning, or urban design.

    The ideal candidate has:

    • 0-1 years of professional experience in a design office
    • Strong research and analysis skills
    • Strong visual representation and graphic design skills
    • A positive attitude and proactive approach
    • Strong problem solving, critical thinking skills
    • Strong English-language verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to take direction
    • Proficiency in: AutoCAD 2014+, Rhino 3D, ArcMap GIS, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), and Microsoft Office

    Additional experience with the following is desirable, but not essential:

    • Exhibition design
    • AfterEffects (or similar animation software)
    • Grasshopper for Rhino
    • Rendering software including Vray, Enscape, or Lumion
    • Hand-sketching
    • Photography
