    SWA/Balsley is a New York City-based design firm that specializes in urban landscape architecture in both the public and private realms. The firm's diverse portfolio in New York and around the world includes award-winning landscapes of all scales, including parks, plazas, street-scapes and waterfronts.

    We are offering a full-time paid internship from July to December, 2019 to a student with outstanding written and verbal communication skills and exemplary design and technical skills. The individual should have experience in creating innovative and sophisticated design/presentation graphics.

    Our studio environment offers interns an opportunity to interact directly with Tom Balsley, the 2015 recipient of the prestigious ASLA Design Medal. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and portfolio of their work in PDF format by Friday, April 12, 2019.

    About the position: Intern Designer

    SWA/Balsley is seeking talented, design oriented candidates who want to gain professional experience on landscape architecture, urban design, and/or planning projects. Degree candidates in landscape architecture, architecture, urban design, and planning are encouraged to apply.  Compensation is hourly.  

    Working with us in this role, you may be responsible for:

    • Design
    • 3D modeling
    • Rendering
    • Producing presentation graphics and presentations
    • Assisting in preparation of construction drawings/documents, sets
    • Attending and participating in meetings
    • Work with senior designers on a collaborative team

    Job location: New York, NY

    Requirements:

    • Enrolled student status in a professional undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited program in landscape architecture, architecture, planning, or urban design.

    The ideal candidate has:

    • 0-1 years professional experience in a design office
    • Strong design skills
    • Strong problem solving, critical thinking skills, analysis
    • Ability to take direction
    • Proficiency in:
      • AutoCAD 2014+
      • Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, esp.)
      • Microsoft Office
      • 3D modeling (SketchUp or Rhino)
      • Google Earth Pro

    Additional experience with the following is desirable, but not essential:

    o Lumion

    o Revit

    o Grasshopper

    o ArcMap/ ArcGIS

    o Bluebeam Revu

    o Hand sketching
