    SUMMER YOUTH Application Process and Timeline

    • Deadline: Apply by March 27, 2026 (Application will close by 5:00 pm)
    • Mandatory Applicant Information Session ( link to register will be sent to email by April 3rd ) BRING the following documents with you: * Photo ID * Proof of City of Syracuse Residency * High School Transcript * Resume (if available) * and ANY Construction related Certifications
    • Formal Panel Interview
    • Notification of acceptance by May 1, 2026
    • Program Dates: June 29, 2026 - July 23, 2026

    Program Details

    Part-time: $16.00/ hour
    Monday-Thursday, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
    4 Week Program with qualifying pre-training
    Classroom Setting
    We will travel to neighboring training facilities (less than 50 miles), transportation provided by SCSD.

    Participants will:

    • Connect with local union-sponsored apprenticeship programs
    • Learn from construction professionals.
    • Be taught the nationally recognized Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3)
    • Earn industry recognized credentials
    • Prepare for union-apprenticeship entrance exams and interviews
    • Access free financial, legal, and career counseling

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • 16 to 18 years old
    • City of Syracuse Resident
    • Syracuse City School District Student
    • Understand and follow directions in English
    • Authorized to work in the United States (proof required at acceptance)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Interest/motivation to learn about the construction industry.
    • Ability to adapt as assignments change.
    • Perform basic arithmetic.
    • High School diploma or equivalent if graduating in June 2026 (proof required).
    • Be able to pass a drug test (administered when applying to union-sponsored registered apprenticeship program).

    • Show up early every day
    • Work well with others
    • Be ready to learn
    • Enjoy hands-on work, working outdoors and in different environments

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 49 pounds and push and/or pull up to 49-pound loads at a time.
    • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
    • Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 0 and 49 pounds.
