    Job Location: 1765 Challenge Way #200 Sacramento, CA 95815 US Position Summary:

    The Pulmonary Function Technologist tests patients' lung functions to determine lung function and related disorders. This may involve a variety of tests, including but not limited to, nitrous oxide levels, spirometry tests, and flow volume loops. The Technologist may also administer walking or exercise stress tests to evaluate the effects of exercise on the pulmonary system.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include the Following:

    1. Understands and adheres to the Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.

    2. Demonstrates knowledge of accepted standards, policies, procedures, staff responsibilities, and instrumentation related to the provision of diagnostic pulmonary function testing.

    3. Demonstrates proficiency in the calibration and operation of laboratory equipment and performance of diagnostic pulmonary function testing.

    4. Demonstrates proficiency in patient assessment, clinical aerosol delivery, and emergency management procedures related to the performance of diagnostic pulmonary function testing.

    5. Provides appropriate instruction/education to patients, family members, and physicians.

    6. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education & Experience Requirements

    Associate degree or equivalent in respiratory care as recognized by the New York State Board for Respiratory Therapy

    California State Respiratory Therapist license

    Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT)

    CPFT or RPFT specialty credential preferred

    Computer competency, including basic understanding of, and ability to work with, Microsoft Windows-based pulmonary function software programs

    Must hold a current American Heart Association BLS

    Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment

    May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access).

    Ability to lift up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
