    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Economic Justice Program (EJP) Coordinator is responsible for meeting with community members to address their employment goals and obstacles, leadership development, and academic/training referral needs. The EJP Coordinator will also work with employers to implement internships, mentorship experiences, and cultural humility training to help build environments where LGBTQ+ and other marginalized populations can thrive. 

     

    This position reports to the Deputy Chief Program Officer (DCPO) and works in partnership with other programming staff and stakeholders as well as directly with community members of diverse backgrounds. The Coordinator may be asked to adjust their schedule with the needs of the program.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Completes new job seeker intake, coordinating the collection and documentation of personal information, and compiling and maintaining confidential files according to organizational policy and procedure. 
    2. Orients new job seekers to the job development process, and the current labor market, and establishes the relationship between job developers and job seekers. 
    3. Conducts comprehensive, strengths-based assessments for job seekers to establish barrier evaluations, skills inventories, and performance benchmarks; develops actionable Individual Service Plans (ISP) based on these assessments.    
    4. Coaches job seekers to discover and access workforce development, financial capability, work support and health and wellness services, training, resources, and tools to support self-sufficiency.
    5. Inputs comprehensive, succinct case notes that illustrate job seekers’ progress in the organization’s database software daily. 
    6. Works hands-on with job seekers, helping to develop the hard- and soft skills needed to qualify for demand-driven jobs. 
    7. Completes job readiness training with job seekers, ensuring competency in topics including but not limited to resume development, behavior-based interviewing, and personal branding.
    8. Monitors progress toward self-directed goals and regularly coaches participants toward goals by employing active listening skills, asking powerful questions, championing self-management, and establishing mutual accountability. 
    9. Networks and develops a vast portfolio of employer partners with real-time job openings that align with the mission, vision, and values of the organization; secures commitments to hire from employer partners. 
    10. Matches qualified job seekers with appropriate employers, arranges and schedules interviews, and ensures the successful hiring of job seekers with a goal of at least a 75% placement rate.
    11. Assists with completing applications and forms, preparing resumes and cover letters, and mock interviews. 
    12. Refers, coordinates, and follows up on the provision of supportive services to develop a safety net for job seekers; maintains working knowledge of community resources and information relevant to job seekers.
    13. Assists the DCPO to implement the three-times yearly career fair, You Betta Work.
    14. Meets and regularly reports to referring agency partners to share information regarding job seekers’ progress; makes recommendations for additional services to referring agencies as needed. 
    15. Acts as a mentor and coach to clients during employment experience to maximize retention, resilience, and problem-solving skills. 
    16. Provides pathways for advancement and upskilling for post-hire job seekers. 
    17. Prepares reports for submission to grantors and supports the fiscal process in accordance with organizational policy and procedure. 
    18. Reports and documents critical incidents and behavior improvement plans involving participants; routes information to appropriate organizational staff.  
    19. Facilitates the provision of reasonable accommodations, cultural humility training, and integration support for job seekers in the community and employment training locations.
    20. Acts as the public face of the organization; attends job fairs, meetings, conferences, etc. on behalf of the organization with the intent to develop employment opportunities for job seekers.
    21. Commitment to serve the most vulnerable community members: transgender/gender non-conforming people, people of color, people with disabilities, people who are marginally housed or experiencing homelessness, unemployed and underemployed people, and low-income people.
    22. Exhibits continuous accountability, transparency, compassion, and humility.
    23. Other duties as assigned.

     

     

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    1. Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ+ people. 
    2. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; public speaking and facilitation.
    3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, varying degrees of fluency in English, immigration status, and physical abilities in an intersectional environment.
    4. Must be available for a specific schedule, occasional evenings and weekend hours as needed, or flexible schedule to include regular evening and weekend hours.
    5. Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
    6. Handle a variety of special projects and other related duties, as assigned.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Associate’s Degree preferred. Two years of workforce development experience may be substituted for higher education.
    2. Proficiency in English is required; Bilingual proficiency in one or more other languages is preferred. 
    3. Proficiency in working with computers and Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Teams, database systems, and social media tools.
    4. Access to reliable transportation or reliable automobile transportation with a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance is required. This position may on occasion be required to drive rented vehicles.
    5. Offer of employment may be contingent on satisfactory results of a criminal history background check.
    6. Employees must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
    7. The Sacramento LGBT Community Center is a drug-free workplace, and employees may be subject to a drug test.
    8.
