POSITION: TLP Housing Advocate
REPORTS TO: Director of Housing Services
STATUS: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, 32-40 hours per week
COMPENSATION: $20 per hour;

JOB SUMMARY:
The Housing Advocate is responsible for leading, coordinating and supporting the implementation of daily programming within the Transitional Living Program (TLP). The Housing Advocate would support the implementation of structured group programming, crisis intervention and referral services, leadership development, and employment/academic readiness services. Low-barrier services are designed to reach disconnected LGBTQ+ transitional aged youth (18-24 years old) as the program is rooted in community building, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction models. Program participants have been victims of crime, and a significant percentage have experienced physical and/or sexual abuse, homelessness, engagement with criminal justice and/or foster care systems, substance use/abuse, and/or mental health challenges.
This position reports to the Director of Housing Services and works in partnership with other programming staff and stakeholders as well as directly with community members of diverse backgrounds. This is a full-time, non-exempt, grant-funded position. The position requires flexibility between 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Sunday-Thursday.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Assist residents in teaching meal preparation and household management to maintain the safety standards of the program.
• Support meal plans/healthy eating with residents with a variety of dietary needs and go grocery shopping weekly with the residents.
• Support residents in working towards goals identified in their case plan, including job searching, GED preparation, and college financial aids services, etc.
• Help residents work through conflict, both internally and with others living in the house.
• Participate/Co-Facilitate weekly house meetings.
• Assist youth with transportation per program policy and procedure
• Ensure vacated rooms are cleaned and ready for new residents.
• Participate in resident interviews.
• Ensure that community agreements and policies related to the housing program and provision of services are followed, with client safety at the forefront.
• Communicate with TLP Case Manager to facilitate the development of a strong team and cohesion of resident supported services.
• Maintain a positive relationship with neighbors.
• Basic maintenance, organization & cleaning of facilities (including, but not limited to, laundry, dishes, sweeping/mopping, and supporting residents in maintaining clean living environment)
• Assist in the data collection of program use.
• Control access to resident contraband.
• Serve as a representative of the organization in collaborative partner networks and at related community and Center events and activities.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Housing Services.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in or with systems of care (homelessness, foster care, juvenile justice, mental health, etc.)
• Strong judgment, professional/personal boundaries, discretion and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with and passion for LGBTQ+ issues and experience working with diverse populations modeling a client-centered approach.
• Ability to consistently set priorities, provide information effectively, and efficiently time and task manage.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Understanding of grant project management and data collection to ensure contract deliverables.
• Highly organized and able to work independently to manage multiple program components simultaneously and integrate with a larger team.
• Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, client services databases, and social media tools.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Associate degree in sociology, social services, health, or other closely related field preferred and 2 years of work experience working with youth; or high school diploma and 4 years of directly related work experience may be substituted for formal education.

• Valid driver’s license and access to reliable automobile transportation with proof of valid insurance is required.
• Flexible availability to work evening and weekend hours.

• Flexibility of schedule, including evenings, weekends, and limited travel as necessary.
• The person in this position may be required to sit or stand for extended periods, maneuver tight storage space, move objects up to 50 pounds, ascend/descend stairs, operate computers, copiers, and other office equipment, open and close filing cabinets and boxes, observe visitors, and communicate message ad tone by telephone.
