Job Description
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
To oversee the staff and operations of Protection from Abuse Coordinated Services which provides education, advocacy, court accompaniment and legal representation to victims of domestic violence, dating violence and related seeking protection through the courts and to advocate as needed with the systems providing protection to better serve victims.
DUTIES:
1. Provides legal consultation and representation to victims of domestic violence including Protection from Abuse Orders and other civil family issues such as custody and support.
2. Provides legal consultation to SafeNet staff regarding legal issues
3. Ensures representation for PFA petitioners and participates in rotation with PFACS contract attorneys.
4. Meets with contract attorneys on a regular basis to ensure consistency and best practices in representation of PFA clients.
5. Participates in the community meetings aimed at reducing domestic violence and providing support to victims. .
6. Maintains Continuing Legal Education credits as required by the CLE Board and attends Civil Legal Trainings as sponsored by the PCADV.
7. Maintains active membership in the Erie County Bar Association.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Juris Doctor Degree
2. Experience in family law and Pennsylvania license to practice law
3. Excellent leadership skills
4. Organizational abilities, written and verbal skills
5. Must demonstrate sensitivity to the complexity of domestic violence issues and have the ability to work with people of various ethnic, racial and socio-economic backgrounds
6. Must be mobile and have reliable transportation
