SAFEPOINT INSURANCE IS A PROPERTY AND CASUALTY INSURANCE CARRIER HEADQUARTERED IN TAMPA, FL.

JOB SUMMARY

 This is an in-house (remotely domiciled) legal counsel position involving the defense of first-party property lawsuits in Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach Counties.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Manage an active case load of 50-85 litigated cases
• Conduct examinations under oath
• Attend hearings and depositions
• Appear for mediations on behalf of company
• Negotiate settlements
• Prepare cases for trial
• Additional projects and/or responsibilities as needed by the Legal Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree and JD from an accredited law school
• Florida licensed attorney with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in insurance defense litigation in a law firm or primary P&C carrier
• Member in Good Standing with the Florida Bar
• Solid understanding of the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure
• Expert in reading and interpreting contracts with the ability to evaluate and resolve coverage issues
• Ability to educate claims specialists in complex coverage issues
• Extensive experience with motion practice, written discovery, and depositions;
• Strong negotiation and communication skills
• Extensive experience with complex claims coverage issues
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Exceptional organizational skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms, and drive a vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This job is professional in nature and will involve working remotely and traveling throughout the Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties to/from hearings, depositions, mediations, etc.
