    Position Summary

    The Safety & Compliance Specialist works closely with safety staff, under the direction of the Director of Safety & Compliance, to support the development and implementation of strategies that reduce risk and promote a strong safety culture across all VW Connect divisions. This role provides hands-on safety support, training, inspections, and technical guidance to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company safety requirements.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsibilities include working with safety and health staff, as directed by the Director of Safety & Compliance, to develop and implement strategies to control risk in the workplace.
    • Assist with formal and high-level risk assessments and identifying training needs.
    • Provide safety and health coaching, mentoring and training to all employees, including OSHA training, new-hire and advanced refresher trainings.
    • Assist with internal inspections and audits.
    • Conduct thorough Incident Investigations.
    • Provide assistance to VW Divisions, Customers and OSHA/State officials during inspections.
    • Provide technical support and direction to division management.
    • Provide assistance to Development Supervision with activities and initiatives.
    • Serve as a resource for all Accident Investigations and audit incident corrective actions.
    • Provide assistance to ensure adherence to jobsite safety requirements.
    • Responsible for duties as defined by Phoenix Job Conduct Standard, Home Builders Association of Central Arizona and VW Connect Safety Management System.
    • Responsible for development crews performing dry utility installations.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Skills

    • Minimum five (5) years experience in health and safety preferred.
    • Minimum two (2) years supervisory/management experience preferred.
    • Sound knowledge and understanding of OSHA 1926 & 1910 required.
    • Experience in Trenching and Excavation standards preferred.
    • Ability to use Microsoft Office software systems required.
    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written required.
    • Demonstrated experience and aptitude in speaking and presenting to large and small groups required.
    • Demonstrated experience and aptitude in classroom facilitation required.
    • Excellent people skills with ability to show empathy and build rapport required.
    • Ability to productively resolve conflict with employees, contactors, federal agencies, etc. (conflict management skills) required.
    • Ability to lead by example required.
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
    • Excellent planning, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal skills preferred.
