    Safety Officer (SSHO) – Field Safety Execution

    Location: Reno, NV (or project-based)
    Employment Type: Full-Time

    Position Summary

    We are seeking a Safety Officer (SSHO) to support safety efforts across active construction and earthwork projects.

    This is a hands-on, field-based role responsible for ensuring safety expectations are clearly communicated, consistently enforced, and actively supported across crews and job sites.

    The Safety Officer works closely with superintendents, foremen, and field leadership to maintain a safe, compliant, and productive work environment. This role is critical in reinforcing daily safety practices and ensuring hazards are identified and addressed in real time.

    Key Responsibilities

    Field Safety Oversight

    • Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections and audits
    • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and take immediate corrective action
    • Monitor daily work activities to ensure safe execution
    • Enforce OSHA standards and project-specific safety requirements

    Safety Execution & Support

    • Work directly alongside crews to reinforce safe work practices
    • Maintain a strong, visible presence in the field
    • Support implementation of safety procedures and expectations
    • Assist in ensuring proper use of PPE and safety equipment

    Safety Culture & Accountability

    • Promote a culture of safety through consistent communication and example
    • Hold crews accountable while maintaining respect and professionalism
    • Partner with field leadership to ensure safety is a daily priority

    Training & Communication

    • Conduct and support toolbox talks, orientations, and on-site safety training
    • Ensure crews understand job hazards and safe work practices
    • Communicate safety updates, requirements, and lessons learned

    Incident Response & Reporting

    • Respond to jobsite incidents, near misses, and injuries
    • Document incidents accurately and in a timely manner
    • Assist with investigations and implementation of corrective actions

    Compliance & Documentation

    • Maintain safety logs, inspection reports, and required documentation
    • Support OSHA reporting and compliance efforts
    • Assist with audits, inspections, and safety reviews

    Coordination with Field Operations

    • Work closely with superintendents and foremen to align safety with daily operations
    • Support pre-task planning and hazard identification
    • Help ensure safety does not slow production—but supports it

    Qualifications

    • 3+ years of experience in construction safety or related field
    • Strong understanding of OSHA standards and construction safety practices
    • Experience working on active construction sites (civil, earthwork, or similar preferred)
    • Ability to communicate effectively with field crews and leadership
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify hazards quickly
    • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative in the field

    Required Certifications

    • CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician)
    • OSHA 500

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in civil construction, grading, utilities, or heavy equipment environments
    • First Aid / CPR certification
    • Experience with incident investigation and reporting processes
