Job Summary: The Safety Specialist is accountable for delivering supportive services and logistical assistance to the Emergency Shelter Program during assigned shifts. Primary duties involve helping with shelter setup, ensuring the facility remains safe, and supporting crowd management and crisis response. A client-centered, trauma-informed approach to housing is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Shelter Support
Goal: Create and maintain a safe, client-centered environment that supports guests in rapidly exiting homelessness.
Support the execution of shelter operations to ensure services are delivered in a high-quality, guest-centered, and trauma-informed manner
Engage with guests to encourage and discuss progress toward securing housing
Assist with the setup and upkeep of shelter spaces
Help maintain overall cleanliness and safety of the facility, including tasks such as emptying trash and general clean-up
Support the receipt and verification of vendor deliveries, including completing tally sheets
Help organize supplies and respond to facility needs as they arise
Contribute to a safe and orderly environment by managing traffic flow and monitoring entry points
Conduct basic searches of individuals or belongings with respect for their dignity
Perform perimeter checks and fire watch duties with diligence and accountability
Support drivers with guest engagement during shuttle ride-alongs
Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries as needed
Administration
Goal: Provide administrative support for program operations
Help maintain accurate and detailed daily summary records
Support documentation and reporting tasks
Assist in logging perimeter checks and fire watch activities
Miscellaneous
Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required
Provide support for guest services and program activities when needed
Carry out special projects or tasks assigned by the Supervisor
