    Job Title: Construction Safety Specialist


    Job Summary:
    We are seeking a qualified and motivated Construction Safety Specialist to join our team at a leading commercial mechanical contractor specializing in HVAC/R and plumbing systems. This position is responsible for supporting field operations by promoting a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, and implementing site-specific safety plans across multiple job sites.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards, unsafe behaviors, and non-compliance with company and OSHA safety standards.

    • Assist in the development and implementation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs), and other safety documentation.

    • Provide safety orientation and training for new hires, subcontractors, and field personnel on topics including fall protection, lockout/tagout, confined space, and PPE.

    • Monitor work involving HVAC/R systems, pipefitting, welding, and plumbing to ensure adherence to mechanical safety protocols.

    • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and safety complaints; assist with root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

    • Maintain safety records, inspection logs, and ensure proper documentation is submitted timely and accurately.

    • Support compliance with environmental and health regulations relevant to construction and mechanical trades.

    • Collaborate with project managers, foremen, and subcontractors to reinforce safety culture and continuous improvement.

    • Participate in safety audits and internal/external inspections.

    Qualifications:

    • 3+ years of safety experience in the construction industry, preferably with a mechanical/HVAC/R or plumbing contractor.

    • BS/BA Safety related degree preferred

    • Recognized Safety Professional Certification - BCSP (CSP, CHST, ASP)

    • Working knowledge of OSHA standards and construction industry best practices.

    • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required.

    • First Aid/CPR certification required; additional safety certifications (e.g., CHST, STS, HAZWOPER) are a plus.

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with field crews and management.

    • Ability to travel between job sites

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software.

    Preferred Experience:

    • Experience working with large-scale commercial mechanical systems, including chillers, boilers, hydronic systems, and refrigeration.

    • Knowledge of mechanical code and risk mitigation related to pressurized systems, brazing, hot work, and equipment hoisting.

    Working Conditions:

    • Work is conducted in both indoor office settings, and outdoor construction job side settings. Require sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending.

    • Noise level varies based on job location.

    • Occasional lifting of up to 40lbs.

    • Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc.

    • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required including, but not limited to: steel toed boots, gloves, eye protection, ear protection, hardhat, vest, etc.
