Position Summary
The Sales Estimator is responsible for generating accurate cost estimates and proposals for landscaping and hardscape projects. This role combines sales, client relations, and technical estimating skills to win new business, support project planning, and ensure profitability. The Estimator works closely with the operations team to ensure scope, pricing, and timelines are clear and achievable.
Key Responsibilities
· Meet with prospective clients to assess project needs and gather detailed job specifications.
· Prepare accurate, competitive, and timely estimates for hardscape/landscaping projects, including custom flatwork, hardscapes, patios, retaining walls, driveways, and more.
· Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and specifications.
· Perform site visits and take measurements as needed to support the estimating process.
· Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, suppliers, and residential clients.
· Follow up on submitted proposals, answer client questions, and negotiate contract terms when needed.
· Work with project managers and foremen to ensure a smooth handoff and proper execution of awarded jobs.
· Track and update bid status, win rates, and job profitability.
· Maintain knowledge of market trends, competitor pricing, and industry materials and labor costs.
· Identify change order opportunities and assist with pricing as needed during ongoing projects.
Qualifications
· 4-5 years of experience in the field, including estimating or sales in the hardscape/landscaping or construction industry.
· Strong knowledge of hardscape and landscaping materials, installation techniques, and job costing.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to read site plans, drawings, and blueprints.
· High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
· Proficiency with estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and CRM tools.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus (but not required).
Working Conditions
· Combination of office and field work.
· Regular travel to job sites for measurements, inspections, and customer meetings.
· Occasional evening or weekend appointments with clients as needed.
