Job Summary:
The Sample Prep Technician is responsible for receiving, organizing, and preparing samples for analytical testing. This includes homogenizing, grinding, drying, digesting, filtering, or extracting samples according to established laboratory procedures. The role plays a critical part in ensuring data integrity and turnaround time by maintaining sample traceability and supporting smooth analytical workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare samples for analysis using drying, grinding, digestion, filtration, extraction, or sub-sampling methods
- Maintain clean and organized prep stations, tools, and equipment
- Follow established SOPs, quality assurance protocols, and safety procedures
- Operate basic lab equipment (e.g., balances, ovens, centrifuges, blenders, hot plates)
- Dispose of sample waste and hazardous materials in accordance with environmental and safety guidelines
- Track and record sample prep steps in LIMS or batch sheets with attention to detail
- Assist with inventory of prep supplies and notify leads of any shortages
- Communicate any irregularities, sample condition issues, or equipment malfunctions promptly
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely
- Comfortable working with a variety of sample types (e.g., soil, water, tissue, food, chemicals)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods
- Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
Required Skills
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or relevant lab experience preferred
- Prior experience in a laboratory or production environment is a plus
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced laboratory environment
- Require to use of PPE (lab coat, gloves, goggles, etc.)
- Exposure to chemical fumes, biological samples, or noisy equipment
- May involve working shifts, weekends, or overtime depending on lab workload
