  • Responsibilities

    1. POSITION PURPOSE

    **** The primary purpose of this role is to prepare samples accurately and efficiently according to approved procedures, and in a safe and efficient manner to achieve a quality product.

    2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES (included and not limited to):

    2.1 Technical/Functional

    · Sort and weigh samples

    · Rotate sample trolleys in and out of drying ovens

    · Safely operate machinery to crush, split and pulverise samples, as directed by the Shift Supervisor

    · Report any quality, production or safety issues

    · Work efficiently to achieve a consistent level of production

    · Recognize basic quality deviations

    · Ensure accurate sample reconciliation and chain of custody is maintained. Immediately report any anomalies to the supervisor/manager

    · Work in accordance with standard production procedures.

    · Perform housekeeping and keep a tidy work area

    · Participate in daily pre-start meetings, shift handovers, Safety meetings

    · Complete all tasks with a high degree of care and attention to detail to ensure sample integrity

    · Demonstrate effective communication skills and integration into the team

    · Other appropriate duties as instructed by the Shift Supervisor.

    2.2 Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHSE)

    · Be responsible for complying with OHSE requirements and contributing to the creation and maintenance of a healthy and safe work environment.

    · Comply with all applicable work instructions, work procedures, safe work procedures, safe work instructions, and lawful directions provided by the supervisor, whether written or verbal.

    · Correctly wear, maintain, and dispose of personal protective equipment in accordance with requirements.

    · Identify and promptly report safety hazards, and take reasonable action to mitigate risks to an acceptable level where it is safe to do so.

    · Maintain a high standard of housekeeping within the work area.

    · Take reasonable care for their own psychological and physical health and safety, and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

    · Exercise the authority to stop a task or operation where an imminent and serious risk to people, property, or the environment is identified, and immediately escalate the matter to a supervisor.

    · Participate in risk management activities, including the completion of risk assessments and hazard controls.

    · Report all OHSE incidents, injuries, and near misses to the supervisor as soon as practicable.

    · Cooperate with all reasonable safety and health policies, procedures, and initiatives implemented by the Employer.

    · Take reasonable care of plant, equipment, and tools, ensuring they are used correctly and not misused or damaged.

    · Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and other OHSE-related training or consultations as required.

    2.3 Other

    · The ability to perform manual handling and lift up to 20kg with repetition safely.

    · The right to work and live in Australia.

    1. POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    3.1 Education & Qualifications

    • The completion of at least year 10 or equivalent

    3.2 Knowledge & Experience

    · Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety

    · Previous experience in sample preparation desirable.

    3.3 Skills & Abilities

    · Ability to safely perform manual handling tasks, including standing for extended periods and regularly lifting items weighing approximately 15–20 kg, in accordance with safe work practices.

    · Effective verbal and written communication skills suitable for a laboratory and production environment.

    · Ability to work independently once trained, while managing a fluctuating workload and changing priorities.

    · Capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment while maintaining safety and quality standards.

    · Strong practical problem-solving skills with sound mechanical aptitude relevant to sample preparation equipment.

    · Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to support operational and production requirements.

    3.4 Other
