  • Responsibilities

    The Vice President (VP) for Cybersecurity & Economic Development leads a department that supports the growth and success of many of San Antonio's most notable driving industries, specifically: cybersecurity, aerospace, health care and bioscience, manufacturing/advanced manufacturing, downtown development, international trade, and hospitality/tourism.  The VP CS&ED interfaces with the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, the City of San Antonio (CoSA) Economic Development Department (EDD), Bexar County, BioMed SA, Centro San Antonio, SATX Air Service Task Force, Hotel and Lodging Association, Visit San Antonio, and many more.  The support that the CS&ED department provides includes: convening, connecting, and branding the regional cybersecurity ecosystem, coordinating with the industry leaders to provide economic impact studies which chart the growth of their sector; building support for legislative actions at the local, state, and federal levels that benefit San Antonio's driver industries; working with local agencies and services to improve business retention and expansion in these key sectors; interfacing with other economic development entities, the City and the County to provide the most consistent approach to existing and potential new businesses in the San Antonio area.  

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Coordinate and lead monthly meetings of Cybersecurity Council, Economic Development Council, Aerospace Committee and Healthcare and Bioscience Committee
    • Provide direction and support to the Councils and Committees in achieving the goals and objectives they develop and those that the Chair of the Board of the Chamber, Chair of the Councils/Committees and Board provide.  In the case of the Cybersecurity Council, comply with the Scope of Services document (attached) from the City of San Antonio.
    • Coordinate the annual 4-day SA to DC trip in conjunction with the Director of Special Events and the VP of Public Policy. In concert with DSE and VP PP, develop realistic budgets and price structure for the trip.  Partner with Public Policy and Special Events departments and event chair to develop a theme and plan to meet goals; coordinating on logistics for the trip and fundraising to meet budget goals; provide content for effective communication for participants
    • Coordinate and host events and activities throughout the year to generate non-dues revenue for The Chamber in each of the program areas of Economic Development and Cybersecurity
    • Coordinate the production of economic impact studies and events associated with their release, including fundraising to cover costs and ensure positive revenue for the Chamber.  
    • Serve as a point of contact and provide information to members and the public who need data on San Antonio demographics, industries, real estate and other statistical information for the region
    • Represent the Chamber on external boards and task forces as directed by the President
    • Attend special events, dinners, breakfasts, and receptions on behalf of The Chamber and/or at the President’s discretion
    • From time-to-time serve as a guest speaker/presenter at special events and functions of local organizations requesting remarks from a Chamber representative
    • Prepare remarks for Chamber volunteers and supervisors, whenever they plan to give presentations at Chamber Board meetings, city council meetings, special events or any other public gathering
    • Write articles for weekly newsletter to highlight the work of the department
    • Consistently meet scheduled timelines and deadlines with excellent quality work
    • Effectively supervise and appropriately delegate responsibilities to department Assistant Vice President to accomplish duties

    DECISION RESPONSIBIITIES

    • Develop meeting agendas and select action items, pertinent issues, or topics and appropriate speakers and presentations for committee and council meetings
    • Collaborate with Special Events Vice President regarding the logistics of special events
    • Provide substantive agenda items for committee meetings, to attract and retain member interest and participation
    • Decide which volunteers to contact to testify and comment at public hearings and other important community meetings
    • Prioritize projects, events, and invitations to maximize effect for the Chamber

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum: Bachelor’s degree

    Preferred: MBA or Masters in relevant career field  

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    REQUIRED:

    • Work experience in for-profit business
    • General knowledge and understanding of industries and businesses that drive San Antonio’s economy
    • Familiarity with the major economic development entities in Bexar County and the State of Texas
    • Successful supervisory position experience

    DESIRED:

    • (highly desired) Cybersecurity background
    • Fundraising/non-profit revenue generation experience
    • Familiarity with the mission of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce
    • Understand the organizational structure and the role that volunteers serve within the organization

    SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Ability to manage multiple projects
    • Ability to speak publicly
    • Ability to develop and maintain budget for projects, special events and department activities
    • Ability to lead and develop staff members and volunteers

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Must have reliable transportation
    • Must have flexibility for attending or responding to early morning and late-night meetings and inquiries
