    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Vice President of Business Development is responsible for leading the growth and development of our regional designated target industry sectors.  This includes marketing regional assets externally and developing relationships with local businesses and executives.  The VP would serve as one of the business development leads for relocating or expanding companies; providing complete and professional technical assistance to prospects; market analysis/trends, information gathering; prospect development and project management;  handle all Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) activities within an assigned sector and work closely with local industry to better understand workforce needs.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES STATEMENT(S):

    Strategic Initiatives:

    • Develop relationships, identify opportunities, suggest and enhance approaches and methods of marketing San Antonio to business prospects, investors, late-stage investment groups, commercial real estate brokers and other economic development partners.
    • Support and implement programs or methods for SAEDF to effectively attract targeted new business into San Antonio and the retention/expansion of existing target sector companies in the region.
    • Remain abreast of local, national and international events and trends (including economic development issues) that affecting SAEDF and its goals.

     

    Business Development (Recruitment & Retention:

    • Serve as a lead representative for marketing and recruitment of new businesses.
    • Responsible for management of existing business retention & expansion visits and assists for SAEDF to effectively identify potential expansion opportunities resulting in them continuing to grow in San Antonio; including achieving goals each year for a specific number of existing business visits and managing assist follow-ups.
    • Serve as principal point of contact with a diverse coalition of partners, organizations or private companies, securing their cooperation, support and action, to meet the location decision requirements of individual prospect companies.
    • Responsible for management of assigned prospects and the programs or methods for SAEDF to effectively identify potential prospects resulting in them moving new operations into San Antonio; including prospect management, site visits, and project management.
    • Pro-actively contact companies to develop prospect leads from data, advertising, electronic tools, marketing trips and from business publications; implements innovative methods of new prospect development.
    • Assist with general and targeted marketing activities and materials, including contribution to industry-specific marketing tools.

     

    Workforce Development:

    • Work with local employers on their talent pipeline needs and how they align to education and training offered throughout our MSA.
    • Serve as a liaison to employers, key industry associations and education leaders to oversee talent recruitment and design and implementation of workforce programs.
    • Analyze labor market trends and apply a data-driven approach to address industry demand and inform a community-wide workforce strategy.

    Relationship Management:

    • In conjunction with the Chief Development Officer and EVP of Business Development, develop and carry-out prospect and/or consultant marketing trips to targeted geographic locations and industry sectors to develop new leads and maintain relationships with companies / individuals from whom SAEDF prospect leads are generated.
    • Manage and grow relationships to enhance collaboration with all partners.
    • Participate in meetings of economic development professional associations, chambers of commerce, municipal councils or other economic development related committees, as assigned by the EVP or Chief Development Officer.
    • Represent SAEDF and promote organizational objectives at official functions.

    EDUCATION:  Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Public Administration, Economic Development, Planning, or related field required. 

    EXPERIENCE:

    • 1-3 years of related experience in sales or business development
    • Experience in business development, preferred

     

    COMPUTER SKILLS: MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook) and other publishing software. CRM experience preferred.

    CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:  None.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Assist and/or participate in travel as needed.  Valid Texas driver license and passport

    Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.  Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, and multi-functioning printer.  Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business related events.  After hours work/travel may be required.
