    THE SF MARIN FOOD BANK IS COMPRISED OF A DEDICATED TEAM OF APPROXIMATELY 150 STAFF WORKING COLLABORATIVELY TO PROVIDE CLOSE TO 50 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD TO OVER 210,000 PEOPLE IN THE BAY AREA – A REGION WHERE 1 IN 4 PEOPLE ARE AT RISK OF HUNGER. WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR A TEMP OUTREACH SPECIALIST IN OUR SAN FRANCISCO FACILITY TO HELP WITH SUSTAINING A PROGRAM, THAT DELIVERS AGAINST THE ORGANIZATIONS MISSION TO END HUNGER.     POSITION PURPOSE

     Join a collaborative team of motivated individuals designing, supporting, and expanding food programs throughout San Francisco and Marin counties.  This position is temporary and will work as part of the Food Bank’s CalFresh Outreach Teams to increase participation in San Francisco’s and Marin’s CalFresh Programs through community outreach and education, client direct services, advocacy, and collaboration with new and existing partners. This position is full time non-exempt and reports to a Senior Program Manager.  FLUENCY IN SPANISH OR CANTONESE IS REQUIRED for this position. This position is remote through the duration of the pandemic or until it is safe to return to in-person activities.  

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

    Outreach, Screening and Application Assistance

    • Develop an understanding of CalFresh program rules and regulations, as well as application and enrollment procedures (training will be provided).
    • Outreach to diverse groups and individuals over the phone and virtually, to create awareness about the CalFresh food benefits program.
    • Educate clients on eligibility for the CalFresh Program and provide pre-screening and application assistance as necessary.
    • Provide case management for clients requiring assistance to complete application process and maintain benefits.
    • Develop existing and establish new virtual outreach connections with community-based sites utilizing innovative methods for identifying and reaching non-participating populations.
    • Adapt existing educational and marketing materials (from public and private sources) for use among community members, pantry network, and community partners.
    • Provide non-eligible participants with referrals to accessing free food distribution programs and other resources.

    Client Data Management and Tracking

    • Track outreach activities, pre-screens, applications submitted, outcomes, and other data.
    • Maintain accurate database of client information.
    • Maintain client confidentiality.
    • Assist in identifying clients who could be helpful in media related events.
    • Maintain accurate files and contribute to preparation of monthly reports.

    Other Responsibilities and Expectations     

    • Assume responsibility for understanding and learning about CalFresh and other public benefits as well as their impact on clients’ lives. Trainings will be provided.
    • Provide feedback to internal and external stakeholders regarding barriers faced by clients in accessing and maintaining CalFresh benefits.
    • Share feedback and learnings with team regarding ways to strengthen program policies and procedures and tools to serve more people efficiently.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish or Cantonese fluently is required.
    • College graduate or equivalency preferred.
    • One or more years of experience in non-profit or social services sector working directly with clients and/or community engagement is preferred.
    • Must have sensitivity to the needs of economically and educationally disadvantaged individuals and historically marginalized communities. 
    • Experience working with clients facing multiple barriers to receiving services is preferred.
    • Ability to maintain client confidentiality; ability to de-escalate challenging situations.
    • Proven record of accuracy in completing, tracking, and reviewing data.
    • Dependable in maintaining a flexible schedule and communicating changes when needed.
    • Demonstrated ability to follow established procedures and organize, plan and carry out activities to meet specific timelines.
    • Ability to work and interact with individuals (staff, volunteers and clients) from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally diverse work environment.
    • Interest in hunger or food issues, social justice, and community advocacy.
    • Knowledge of Bay Area food security landscape preferred.

    COMMUNICATION AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

    REASONING ABILITY:                         Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide    range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to interpret instructions.

    MATHEMATICS ABILITY:                       Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs.

    LANGUAGE ABILITY:                             Bilingual Cantonese and/or Spanish preferred
