    SCIENCE INTERN San Luis & Delta Mendota Water Authority - Sacramento, CA $30 an hour - Full-time, Temporary, Internship Temporary Full-time, 40 hours/week, not to exceed 6 months in duration** Please read entire job posting for specific application instructions** MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Undergraduate degree, or an individual pursuing graduate studies in biology, fisheries, wildlife biology or closely related field Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities is qualifying. License Requirement: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain such required license(s) may be cause for disciplinary action. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be considered for accommodation on a case-by-case basis. Possession and proof of a good driving record as evidenced by freedom from multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents for at least two (2) consecutive years. The driving record will not contribute to an increase in the Authoritys automobile insurance rates. Abbreviated Job Description: Under general direction of the General Counsel, assists with a variety of activities associated with the review, synthesis, and interpretation of various fishery related technical studies and research. Provides data management and science work support for improved understanding of key biological and ecological relationships to the evolving body of scientific knowledge of the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta. Examples of duties of the Science Intern include, but are not limited to: Assist with synthesis and analysis of scientific data concerning pelagic and anadromous fish; Research and prepare summary reports on selected Bay Delta science topics; Assist in the preparation of reports and studies; Prepare graphs to present research findings; Participate in science related meetings as assigned Must possess: the ability to utilize critical thinking skills to convey information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, ability to use standard statistical packages for data management, Synthesize complex concepts from literature, Knowledge of fisheries, aquatic ecosystems, wildlife biology and/or habitat restoration, ability to work with minimal supervision with strong organizational skills, follow instructions, work independently and cooperatively with others, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers, outside agencies, and the public, exercise sound judgment within established guidelines, and regularly and consistently meet attendance/punctuality requirements Typical Physical Activities include, but are not limited to: May occasionally travel automobile in conducting Authority business. Communicates orally with Authority management, coworkers, and the public in facetoface, onetoone, and group settings. Sufficient finger/hand coordination and dexterity to operate and adjust office equipment. Regularly uses a telephone for communication. Uses office equipment such as computer, copiers, and other office machines. Work at a desk and sits for extended time periods. Standing and walking; Work in an office environment, lift and move objects up to 25 pounds such as large binders, books, and small office equipment.
