Research Associate I (Immunity and Pathogenesis) Chanda Lab
_Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health. Our scientists are making research breakthroughs in cancer, neuroscience, immunology, and children's disease. We are also at the forefront of finding solutions for emerging health threats such as COVID-19, where we are working to identify drugs that may help millions of people. During our more than 40 year history, we have established an NCI-designated Cancer Center, designed one of the most sophisticated drug discovery centers in the nonprofit world, and created global collaborations that are leading to preventions, treatments and cures to improve human health. _
The Chanda lab has an exciting job opportunity for a RESEARCH ASSOCIATE I/II.

Dr. Chanda's laboratory is interested in unraveling the molecular bases for complex host-pathogen interactions, which will not only provide insight into viral pathogenesis, but key regulators of inflammation and innate immunity in cancer.molecular bases for complex host-pathogen interactions. The scientists in the Chanda lab are looking to find known drugs that can inhibit the Covid-19 virus. The approach they are taking, known as drug repositioning, can cut development time dramatically. Since they are looking at FDA-approved drugs that are proven to be safe in humans, these medicines could rapidly get to people infected with the virus. If successful, drug repositioning will likely be the fastest path to find a therapeutic solution for the virus. The Chanda lab is also studying cellular proteins required for both influenza A and retrovirus/HIV infection.
A RESEARCH ASSOCIATE I/II position is available in the Chanda Lab.They are seeking a highly self-motivated individual with a strong background in virology, mammalian cell culture and molecular biology, with an emphasis on respiratory viruses (SARS-CoV-2 and influenza) at both the BSL-2 and BSL-3 levels. Experience in assay development and high throughput genetic screening is desirable. The candidate will work in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment to perform in vitro and ex vivo infection assays, virus propagation and quantitation, cell-based screening, small molecule antiviral testing, siRNA and cDNA transfections, tissue culture, and maintenance of various mammalian cell lines and primary cells. Additionally, the candidate will be involved in basic molecular techniques such as cloning and DNA/RNA/protein works, and other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.
