_Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health. Our scientists are making research breakthroughs in cancer, neuroscience, immunology, and children's disease. We are also at the forefront of finding solutions for emerging health threats such as COVID-19, where we are working to identify drugs that may help millions of people. During our more than 40 year history, we have established an NCI-designated Cancer Center, designed one of the most sophisticated drug discovery centers in the nonprofit world, and created global collaborations that are leading to preventions, treatments and cures to improve human health. _

Dr. Chanda's laboratory is interested in unraveling the molecular bases for complex host-pathogen interactions, which will not only provide insight into viral pathogenesis, but key regulators of inflammation and innate immunity in cancer molecular bases for complex host-pathogen interactions. The scientists in the Chanda lab are looking to find known drugs that can inhibit the Covid-19 virus. The approach they are taking, known as drug repositioning, can cut development time dramatically. Since they are looking at FDA-approved drugs that are proven to be safe in humans, these medicines could rapidly get to people infected with the virus. If successful, drug repositioning will likely be the fastest path to find a therapeutic solution for the virus. The Chanda lab is also studying cellular proteins required for both influenza A and retrovirus/HIV infection.

A POSTDOCTORAL POSITION in Systems Immunology is available in the laboratory of Dr. Sumit K. Chanda (La Jolla, CA). The position will focus on generating both systems-level and mechanistic understanding of autoimmune and inflammatory disease, particularly in the areas of T cell biology and fibrosis. Studies will place an emphasis on translating basic research discoveries into pre-clinical concepts as part of corporate sponsored drug discovery and early target identification programs. Prospective candidates will play an important role in elucidating novel factors involved in regulation of immune responses, and understanding their therapeutic implications for inflammation, autoimmunity, infectious disease, fibrosis and cancer.
