    Novel epigenetic mechanisms in neurogenesis.

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Alexey Terskikh, Development, Aging, and Regeneration Program, Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, La Jolla, California. The position focuses on understanding the role of SoxB1 factors in in self-renewal and differentiation of normal and neoplastic neural stem cell. A candidate will undertake a comprehensive analysis of SoxB1 interactome and function combining the expression analysis, proteome, and chromatin binding assays. Alongside, he or she will investigate at the single cell level the epigenetic landscape in normal neural cell and will interrogate the heterogeneity in primary human brain tumors. The long-term goal of this project is to identify novel genes and pathways implicated in adult neurogenesis and to develop small molecules enhancing adult hippocampal neurogenesis. As a sidetrack of this project we are also interested in small molecules interfering with brain tumor growth and inducing differentiation of cancer “stem cells”.

    Required Skills

Skills in tissue culture, cell and molecular biology, fluorescent microscopy, computational biology and writing skills are required.

    Required Experience

The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in any discipline of Biological Sciences.  Experience with transgenic mice model is highly desirable.
