    _Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health. _ 

    A part-time RESEARCH ASSOCIATE I position is available in the Bodmer Lab. The Research Associate would assist with overall projects in the lab. The work schedule would be 8 hours per week. 

    The Bodmer Laboratory is investigating in the cellular and molecular basis of heart development and function using the Drosophila melanogaster model system. One focus of the research concerns how cells and tissue types assume their correct fates during embryogenesis, how patterns are generated and the molecular mechanisms underlying organ formation. 

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Organizes and maintains Drosphila stocks
    • Provides molecular biology (CRISPR/qPCR) support
    • Performs high-speed videomicroscopy
    • Assists with Drosophila husbandry
    • Troubleshoots problems and develops solutions to technical problems of moderate scope

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • BA/BS Degree in the biological sciences, chemistry or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or MS degree in one of the biological sciences or chemistry

    Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities

    • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Possess strong analytical, time management and organizational skills
    • Able to work in a deadline-driven schedule
