    _Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health. _

    A SR. BUYER position is available in the Supply Chain and Logistics department.  The senior level buyer has increased responsibility for the procurement of scientific and administrative supplies, equipment, and services from low to high risk. They will be responsible for all follow-up related to the orders.

    The senior level buyer will also serve as a liaison between researchers and suppliers with respect to product promotions, special discounts, samples and equipment maintenance contracts.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Takes ownership of all requisitions of a complex nature over 10K for materials and services for labs and administrative departments as found in Jaggaer
    • Procures low-high dollar capital equipment and any related maintenance and/or repair services, which includes following all requirements of procedures and policies established regarding capital appropriation request asset tagging forms, approvals, justifications required, and OMB requirements
    • Sources suppliers for requisitioned materials, determining factors such as availability, lead time, price and discounts offered
    • Prepares and selects vendor lists for bid invitations or price quotations
    • Assists department leadership with special projects including, but not limited to, annual financial audits, customer service program, sourcing events, etc.
    • Resolves Service Now incidents in a timely manner
    • Manages all order confirmations received and provides end-users with any back-order information
    • Run weekly back-order reports to proactively address any discontinued or cancelled orders
    • Runs weekly open encumbrance reports and partners with Research Accounting to update account information on applicable POs
    • Works with the supplier and user on any returns or defective items
    • Coordinates Supplier Relationship Management of key suppliers which includes, but not limited to, meetings for quarterly or bi-annual business reviews
    • Strategizes pricing discounts for high use items, negotiates payment and freight terms and other program incentives relating to their business
    • Analyzes data to present to management with negotiation results and/or suggestions
    • Performs assignments of medium technical complexity; may be member of a project team or individual contributor on less complex projects
    • Recognizes, elevates and/or executes orders requiring protection of property, liability, intellectual property
    • Mentors, supports, and trains Buyer position, as needed

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • High School diploma and five years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained, is required
    • Bachelor's degree preferred
