Postdoctoral Associate (Development, Aging and Regeneration) D'Angelo Lab

Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute

Postdoctoral Associate (Development, Aging and Regeneration) D'Angelo Lab

La Jolla, CA

  • Responsibilities

_Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health. Our scientists are making research breakthroughs in cancer, neuroscience, immunology, and children's disease. We are also at the forefront of finding solutions for emerging health threats such as COVID-19, where we are working to identify drugs that may help millions of people. During our more than 40 year history, we have established an NCI-designated Cancer Center, designed one of the most sophisticated drug discovery centers in the nonprofit world, and created global collaborations that are leading to preventions, treatments and cures to improve human health. _

The main focus of the D'Angelo's laboratory is to study the role of Nuclear Pore Complexes, the multi-protein channels that connect the nucleus with the cytoplasm. Using a combination of cell biology, imaging and animals models the lab seeks to understand how nuclear pores regulate the physiology of different tissues and to establish how alterations in the function of these structures contribute to cellular malfunction and disease. The D’Angelo laboratory also has a strong emphasis in the translation of basic discoveries into clinical applications.

The D'Angelo laboratory has multiple POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE positions available in the areas of immune regulation, skeletal muscle and cancer. The positions will focus on increasing our understanding of the regulation of tissue homeostasis by nuclear pore complexes and other components of the nuclear transport machinery. The successful candidates will be part of a highly collaborative research team and will have the opportunity to work with advanced techniques in molecular and cellular biology, genetics, imaging, and models of disease. Candidates are expected to play a key role in dissecting the mechanisms of function of components of the nuclear transport system and in establishing their potential therapeutic implications for muscle disease and cancer. Some studies may involve the identification of novel drug targets, the development of high throughput screening assays and small molecule screening campaigns.
