The Prebys Center has an opening for MEDICINAL CHEMIST SCIENTIST. The vision of Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics (Prebys Center) at SBP is to be the world’s leading academic drug discovery and development organization, an epicenter for innovative approaches to accelerate the discovery of new drugs to help save lives and treat disease. This is an exciting opportunity to directly support biomedical and drug discovery projects with an end goal of ultimately benefiting patients.
The Medicinal Chemist - Scientist in the Prebys Center will be primarily responsible for scientific activities associated with small molecule drug/probe discovery projects. The Scientist will be responsible for the design and synthesis of new targets and will interpret biological data to inform compound design and other related duties and tasks, as required or assigned.

- Demonstrated synthetic chemistry experience in multistep synthesis of small organic molecules.
- Independently designs and performs experiments and procedures with high degree of complexity, demonstrating increasing expertise with a wide range of techniques
- Demonstrates flexibility in adapting methods/skills according to evolving project priorities.
- Provides independent experimental design and follow up planning, interpretation of results and evaluation of data
- Analyzes and interprets data from different sources and draws relevant conclusions
- Presents results in labs and external meetings
- Accurately documents experiments in lab notebook
- Contributes to writing of reports and manuscripts, with increasing responsibility over time
- Works collaboratively across functions
- Trains junior members of team as needed
- Ph.D. in chemistry or related field and two years’ experience conducting multistep small molecule synthesis, independent drug discovery or related laboratory research required OR equivalent education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained
- Candidates with Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in chemistry or related field with a minimum of 5+ year's experience are welcome to apply
- In-depth knowledge and fundamental understanding of modern characterization techniques (NMR, LCMS, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience designing and executing complex synthetic schemes

- Ability to analyze complex data sets to develop understanding of SAR
- Demonstrated knowledge in specialized disciplines
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret and present results in internal meetings
