Staff Scientist (Immunity & Pathogenesis) Chanda Lab

Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute

Staff Scientist (Immunity & Pathogenesis) Chanda Lab

La Jolla, CA
  • Responsibilities

SBP is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health. For over 40 years, our research has produced breakthroughs in cancer, neuroscience, immunology and children’s diseases, and is anchored by our NCI-designated cancer center and advanced drug discovery capabilities.

Viruses are obligate pathogens, and therefore their survival is dependent upon their ability to exploit host cellular machinery. Concurrently, viruses must also successfully evade immune surveillance mechanisms, including first-line (innate) defense systems. The Chanda lab is interested in unraveling the molecular bases for these complex host-pathogen interactions, which will not only provide insight into viral pathogenesis, but key regulators of inflammation and innate immunity in cancer.

The Staff Scientist will manage and play a significant role in corporate sponsored partnerships with an emphasis on translating basic research discoveries into pre-clinical concepts as part of a corporate sponsored drug discovery and early target identification programs. Specifically, the Staff Scientist will be responsible for the design and generation of both a systems-level and a mechanistic understanding of autoimmune and inflammatory disease, particularly in the areas of T cell biology and fibrosis. The Staff Scientist will also apply for funding together with the PI and collaborate with the corporate sponsor(s) and other labs to elucidate novel factors involved in regulation of immune responses, and understanding therapeutic implications for autoimmunity, inflammation, infectious disease, and cancer.
