    The Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute is seeking a Research Assistant I to be a contributing member of the Protein Expression team in diverse applied-research activities and will work side-by-side with experienced scientists on projects in small-molecule drug discovery. This role will support a wide variety of experiments related to assigned projects

This is an exciting opportunity to directly support scientists focused on biomedical and drug discovery projects with an end goal of ultimately benefiting patients.


    • Perform bacterial and eukaryotic cell culture, generate and maintain stable cell lines, carry protein cloning, purification and characterization.
    • Assistance with high-throughput screening assays
    • Biochemical data generation and analysis.
    • Keeps written records of experiments and data organization
    • Provides interpretation and analysis of results
    • Perform other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in a biochemistry or cell/molecular biology or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained
    • Prior hands-on lab experience is a plus
    • Experience with eukaryotic (insect and/or mammalian) cell culture, cell transfection/transformation, recombinant virus generation, stable cell lines creation and propagation is preferred.
    • Practical knowledge of eukaryotic (insect and mammalian, viral and none-viral) and bacterial expression systems, protein expression and purification, chromatography, protein characterization and molecular cloning is strongly preferred.

    • Ability to learn new instrumentation, software and department-specific computer systems is essential
    • Perform multiple tasks concurrently
    • Work independently as well as in a team environment
    • Be responsible and have strong time management skills
    • Work on a deadline-driven schedule
    • Able to analyze and resolve issues of moderate complexity
    • Possess strong attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills
    • Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office
