Research Assistant I (Tumor Initiation and Maintenance) Zhao Lab
SBP is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health. For over 40 years, our research has produced breakthroughs in cancer, neuroscience, immunology and children’s diseases, and is anchored by our NCI-designated cancer center and advanced drug discovery capabilities.
Currently the laboratory of Crystal Zhao is digging deeper into the molecular mechanisms through which m6A regulates RNA stability. They are also investigating how m6A regulates mESC ground state and whether m6A plays a role in mESC differentiation. Recently the lab identified a protein complex that governs m6A formation. Significantly they discovered that m6A shortens the half-life of a subset of mRNAs, including mRNAs encoding pro-differentiation genes.
The RESEARCH ASSISTANT I will be working in the Zhao lab and will be involved in cell culture and biochemical work, and other related duties and tasks as assigned. The Research Assistant will be multi-tasking and work in a fast-paced environment. The most critical requirement of the candidate is to be fully capable at benchwork – learning new technologies as well as applying existing knowledge to procedures. In addition, the candidate is expected to manage a project under limited supervision.
