    The Santa Barbara Zoo is seeking a Marketing Coordinator with a positive outlook, tons of enthusiasm, to assist in general marketing duties and programs. The Marketing Coordinator is responsible for working on a wide variety of projects, promotions, and partnerships to advance the visibility of the Santa Barbara Zoo. Examples include: social media monitoring and content creation, video and photography for documentation, graphics production, support in special events and annual events, assistance with press release dissemination, photo and video library, as well as communications with current and potential community partners.

    The qualified applicant must have a college degree, and at least one year of paid experience in Marketing or Communication is preferred.

    This is a regular, full time, non-exempt position.

    Schedule: Monday -- Friday, including some evenings, week-ends and holidays for special events and annual events.

    Wages: $15/hour and up, DOE

    JOB DESCRIPTION - Marketing Coordinator

    Summary:

    In collaboration with the Marketing Department, this position assists in general marketing duties and programs. The Marketing Coordinator is responsible for working on a wide variety of projects, promotions, and partnerships to advance the visibility of the Santa Barbara Zoo. Examples include: social media monitoring and content creation, video and photography for documentation, graphics production, support in special events and annual events, assistance with press release dissemination, photo and video library, as well as communications with current and potential community partners.

    Essential Duties include the following:

    Marketing Projects:

    Assists with all aspects of the Santa Barbara Zoo’s Marketing programs (including social media, online promotions, graphics, etc.).

    Handles various administrative projects, including correspondence with community partners, etc., ensuring all communications reflect the Zoo brand accurately.

    Assists with managing IMPROVology and Zoo Radio programs.

    Interfaces with various departments and customers or vendors as needed, building collaborative relationships with all involved.

    Assists with other various projects, as needed.

    Digital Communications:

    Assists with the Zoo’s online social networking (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, etc.) including monitoring pages, creating content, and tracking analytics.

    Assists with graphics projects as needed, including creating signs, placing orders, etc.

    Assists in maintaining Zoo website.

    Assists with press release dissemination and additional press communications as needed.

    Updates community online calendars with SBZ events.

    Video and Photography:

    Takes photos of staff, animal collection, and events as needed for various projects and documentation purposes.

    Assists with creating and producing video marketing materials as needed.

    Updates and monitors Zoo’s proprietary photo and video library.

    Events:

    Assists in planning and coordination of IMPROVology events

    Participates in special events and annual events as needed.

    Assists with media tours, behind-the-scenes, and PR events.

    Assists with community event appearances off-grounds.

    Helps supervise outside film and television productions within the Zoo as needed.

    Other:

    Assists with Zoo’s general marketing efforts with any other duties as required.

    Adheres to the Zoo’s policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Policy Manual.

    Applies and exemplifies “green” (sustainable) practices whenever possible.

    Greets every guest with a smile or a friendly “hello.”

    Thanks guests for supporting/visiting the Zoo.

    Answers phone calls promptly and professionally.

    Ensures the Zoo’s presentation standards for cleanliness and maintenance are met by keeping work areas clean, picking up trash, reporting unsafe or unsightly conditions.

    Associates with guests to share information, identify their needs, and make their experience a more personal one, providing a high level of customer service and satisfaction.

    Responds to all guest inquiries, complaints, and comments according to Zoo guest relations procedures.

    Maintains a clean neat appearance and adheres to the Zoo’s uniform dress code.

    Takes responsibility to stay informed about happenings at the Zoo, such as reading employee communications and attending meetings.

    Reflects the qualities outlined in the Guest Relations Statement, the Employee Pledge, and our Core Values.

    Other duties as required.

    POSITION CRITERIA:

    Education and Experience:

    Minimum 1 year paid experience in marketing or communications preferred.

    College degree required.

    Must be at least 18 years of age.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    Strong organizational and time management skills.

    Sound understanding of marketing principles.

    Working knowledge of social media tools, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

    Experience working with Photoshop, InDesign, and Final Cut.

    Familiarity working with PC and Apple platforms.

    Leadership skills.

    Effective oral and written communication skills.

    Ability to follow oral and written direction.

    Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently as a team member in shared work space environment.

    Ability to interact effectively, courteously and respectfully with supervisors, fellow employees, volunteers, and guests.

    Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines and operate under time pressure, with various interruptions.

    Ability to effectively work in busy, shared office environment.

    Ability to handle large, multifaceted events with composure and professionalism.

    Ability to exercise safe work habits.

    Awareness of, sensitivity to, and empathy with animals.

    Basic knowledge of elementary education, environmental education, and biology/zoology.

    License, Certification, or Preferred Qualifications:

    Valid CA Driver’s license with good driving record is desirable.

    TB tests and Tetanus vaccinations as necessary.

    Successful completion of a Department of Justice background check.

    Physical Demands & Work Environment:

    Requires the ability to access all areas of the facility.

    Must be able to climb stairs, manipulate computer tools for extended period of time, stand/walk for up to two continuous hours.

    Involves walking out-of-doors in all weather conditions.

    Ability to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lb.

    Requires flexible schedule, including some weekends, holidays, and evenings.
