The Santa Barbara Zoo is seeking an experienced, hands-on Marketing Manager with a positive outlook and a successful track record in implementing and managing strategic marketing plans, including advertising, public relations, communications, website, social media, graphics, overseeing all owned media channel content, and general promotions.
The qualified applicant must have a minimum of three years of professional marketing experience. Work experience with or in a non-profit organization or venue is a plus.
This is a regular, full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Marketing.
Schedule: Generally Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Includes occasional early mornings and late evenings for events, as well as some weekends and holidays, based on business needs.
Compensation: $25.50/hour and benefits
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Marketing, this position manages all marketing campaigns in regards to advertising, external communications, and owned media. The Marketing Manager is responsible for strategizing and managing advertising campaigns, public relations efforts, and community partnerships, as well as overseeing all owned media channel content and implementation, including social media, website, and other marketing channels.
Essential Duties include the following:
Marketing Campaigns
Manages all advertising campaigns and external channels, including digital advertising, traditional advertising, public relations, and more
Works collaboratively with all other departments to strategize marketing campaigns
Supervises contracted advertising agencies to strategize and implement campaigns, including budgets and timelines
Supervises contracted public relations agency for all media relations, including press releases, media inquiries, announcements, press events, etc.
Manages additional internal digital campaigns, including paid social media and Google Ads
Owned Media and Engagement
Oversees all owned media management and engagement, including website, email, newsletter, social media, and all onsite marketing surfaces, including in-park graphics
Manages timelines and budgets for all campaign launch dates, as well as ongoing promotions and efforts
Supervises all content creation and implementation for appropriate owned channels, including videos, graphics, etc.
Partnerships
Explores opportunities to collaborate and develop partnerships that would be mutually beneficial to the Zoo and partner organizations
Manages current partnerships with local businesses, hotels, social media influencers, etc. on behalf of the marketing department
Assists with behind-the-scenes tours with special partners, VIPs, etc.
Manages all incoming film and television production requests
Organization
Attends weekly manager meetings
Adheres to the Zoo’s policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Policy Manual
Applies and exemplifies “green” (sustainable) practices whenever possible
Additional Duties:
Assists with content creation when needed, including photo, video, and graphics
Participates in special events and annual events as needed
Other Duties:
Greets every guest with a smile or a friendly “hello”
Thanks guests for supporting/visiting the Zoo
Answers phone calls promptly and professionally
Ensures the Zoo’s presentation standards for cleanliness and maintenance are met by keeping work areas clean, picking up trash, reporting unsafe or unsightly conditions
Associates with guests to share information, identify their needs, and make their experience a more personal one, providing a high level of customer service and satisfaction
Responds to all guest inquiries, complaints, and comments according to Zoo guest relations procedures.
Maintains a clean neat appearance and adheres to the Zoo’s uniform dress code
Takes responsibility to stay informed about happenings at the Zoo, such as reading employee communications and attending meetings
Reflects the qualities outlined in the Guest Relations Statement and the Employee Pledge
Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field
Working knowledge of digital and social media marketing concepts
Minimum three years experience in Marketing or Communications

Time Commitment
Position will occasionally require Saturday and Sunday shifts, as well as some evenings and holidays, for certain special events
The schedule will change based on business/seasonal needs
License, Certification, or Preferred Qualifications:
Valid CA Driver’s License with good driving record
Reliable transportation to and from work. Insurance coverage must meet the Zoo’s criteria to be allowed to drive for the Zoo
Successful completion of a Department of Justice background check
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Requires the ability to access all areas of the facility
Must be able to regularly climb stairs, manipulate computer tools, stand/walk for up to three continuous hours
Involves walking out-of-doors in all weather conditions
Supportive and open employment culture
Ability to lift 40 lbs. occasionally, 20 lbs. regularly
Requires flexible schedule, including most week-ends and some holidays and evenings
Requires the ability to attend meetings on grounds and off grounds, sometime during early mornings and evenings
Requires the ability to work effectively in a shared open-office environment with frequent interruptions
Ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously and handle high responsibility in a calm and positive manner
