Live-in Nanny Job
Hello there, I'm a solo-mom-by-choice expecting my first child in January of 2018. I have a 3 bedroom, 1 bath house near the Columbia City light rail station and would love to have a live-in nanny support me and my little one.
Compensation: Room & Board (renting a room in this area is generally about $600/mo so nanny would not have to pay for rent, Nanny would eat the groceries I buy for the house, generally organic, whole foods, healthy-- so also no-to-limited food expenses), $1500-$1800/month ($375-$450 weekly stipend, pre-tax depending on experience for up to 45 hrs of child care/wk), 2 weeks paid vacation (hours accrued weekly), 3 paid sick days (hours accrued weekly), opportunity to travel with family (paid) on vacation, paid overtime (always optional, but for hours over 45/week can negotiate hourly pay for date-nights, solo mom time, etc.), bonus pay for any day where we (as a household) host an Air BnB guest.
About me, my home, my community: I'm a queer, 37 year old woman working as a manager in an agency that provides services to homeless individuals. I also have a commitment to volunteer work and am currently volunteering for an organization that supports recovery from trauma, mental illness, and alcohol/substance use disorders. I'm from a large Irish-Catholic family (9 siblings, 18 nieces & nephews, tons & tons of cousins) that still lives in NY but have created a lovely Family-of-Choice here in Seattle. I also host, on-and-off, guests via Air BnB to make a little extra cash. I speak Spanish, have lived in Bolivia, have bicycled 2,600 across Europe and backpacked the major treks in Patagonian Chile and Argentina. I love to cook and make things (knit, sew, build, sculpt, draw, paint...don't do any of those very well, but still love to try), and used to play piano and harp, a little bit of guitar and uke which I'm hoping to bring back into my life (maybe a nice keyboard in the house as a first step).
I have a sweet black lab who is 8 years old (but still seems like a puppy), and 4 chickens in a coop in the yard. I am dedicated to non-violence (in word and action), welcoming and affirming all types of people, and committed to anti-racist work and living gently on the earth (that means live-in nanny MUST be willing to embrace recycling and composting that happens here). :) I was a live-in nanny during my college years so I have experience being on the other side of the live-in nanny/family relationship and believe that with communication and flexibility, living with others can be an enjoyable and enriching experience.
My ideal nanny: thoughtful, conscientious, child-loving, curious, flexible, respectful adult who can communicate honestly and directly with me, and manage the complexities of being an employee, housemate, and probably, on some level, a family member. I would like a nanny who is comfortable with a "no screen" policy when with the baby (i.e. no smartphone scrolling when baby is awake). Must be comfortable with a 65 lb dog who shares the house with us, and comfortable interacting with racially, ethnically, socio-economically, gender expression, and sexual-orientation diverse friends that are part of my life. Non-smoker is a must.
I do have a somewhat flexible work schedule that could accommodate the nanny attending school (later in afternoon or evening) while working, with advance notice and mutual coordination (classes every day starting at 4pm might be hard for me to accomodate, but a twice/week class starting at 4 or 5 could probably work).
Job duties would include: focus and commitment to loving and engaged child care, help with household chores/errands as time allows during workday, sharing in household upkeep when not on-duty (generally cleaning up after oneself as is expected in a house-mate situation).
Please contact me with some information about your interest (must specifically speak to what in this ad sounds appealing, maybe what isn't an exact fit but you'd be open to working with), experience, and availability.
