Responsibilities for the Role
(This is a salaried position - $56,166-84,249/yr DOE). The Receiving Supervisor oversees the activities of hourly personnel in the receiving department and assumes responsibility for the unloading and routing of freight deliveries for processing, maintenance, and labeling departments. Additionally, the supervisor manages, counts, and verifies the receipt of caps, corks, and other closures. They are also responsible for procuring and maintaining supplies of tape and adhesives, compiling daily reports on bottling efficiency, issuing purchase orders for plant maintenance, and collaborating with AP to ensure timely payment of invoices.
- Supervise hourly case house employees to ensure efficient and accurate performance of work. Strategize work schedules to ensure uninterrupted bottling operations while minimizing trailer rearrangement to prevent double handling. Optimize existing floor inventory to minimize the presence of partially filled glass containers. Coordinate trailer arrangements for truck drivers to ensure availability of glass for the second shift. Maintain an inventory of knockdowns for use by the Bottling and Shipping departments in case of damage.
- Enforce all OSHA and Company safety regulations and policies, maintaining a safe workplace. Exhibit leadership in the Materials department's safety program by developing and implementing safe practices and operating procedures to minimize workplace accidents. Assist in the investigation of EH&S incidents to enhance safety measures.
- Train and supervise case house employees to enhance their skills and performance. Evaluate employee performance and skill levels to identify improvement areas and develop plans for skill enhancement. Collaborate with the Materials Manager to create and execute personal development plans targeting specific skills/competencies.
- Ensure compliance with all Personal Safety, Food Safety, Quality, and Environmental Policies and Practices. Supervise the receipt and unloading of various bottling materials, including closures, labels, bottles, and adhesives. Oversee the receipt of goods for other departments. Verify the accuracy of shipments against shipping documents during unloading, documenting and investigating any discrepancies. Accurately record information in company systems to update inventory records.
- Meet internal and external customer requirements by verifying daily deliveries, maintaining up-to-date material inventory records, and promptly communicating information to prevent production disruptions due to missing materials. Provide exceptional customer service by serving as a professional and friendly point of contact between vendors/truck drivers and the Barton 1792 Distillery.
- In the absence of the Materials Manager, collaborate with production scheduling and glass/PET vendors to schedule/release bottles for production. Adjust bottling schedules for each line daily. Manage inventories of empty case goods and closures.
- Collect and enter data from bottling, shipping, and processing departments to generate daily reports on bottling efficiency. Verify daily finished goods bottled and shipped, as well as month-to-date totals for each category. Prepare various month-end reports, including efficiency and loss time reports. Accurately record the receipt of closures, adhesives, tape, and plant maintenance items in System 21 in a timely manner.
- Verify monthly total bottled and shipped numbers against government records and reconcile inventory totals. Manage recyclables, such as cardboard and plastic, arranging for their removal from the plant and supervising the process.
- Provide leadership to case house employees in line with the company's culture. Ensure fair and respectful treatment of employees, fostering a team-oriented environment where each individual can make a meaningful contribution.
- Understand employees' career goals and collaborate with them to develop skills that align with their career aspirations. Create and execute a personal Career Development Plan in conjunction with the manager.
Qualifications and Requirements

- Possess experience in the Alcohol Beverage Industry or Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry overall
- Have experience managing in a union environment
- Demonstrate supervisory experience
