We are seeking a Lead Production/Scenic Carpenter | CNC Router Programmer & Operator to oversee and contribute to the fabrication of high-quality scenic elements, stage components, and custom builds. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled craftsman with CNC programming expertise who can guide projects from concept to completion, mentor team members, and uphold exceptional standards of quality and efficiency in a fast-paced production environment. This is a full-time position with comprehensive benefits package.
Essential Job Functions:
Lead fabrication and construction of scenic set pieces, signs, custom platforms, stair units, flats, podiums, furniture, and specialty items.
Program, set up, and operate Laguna CNC Router using VCarve software.
Collaborate closely with shop management to ensure projects meet design intent, deadlines, and quality standards.
Provide hands-on leadership to fabrication staff—delegating tasks, promoting safe and efficient work practices, and maintaining productive workflow.
Read and interpret detailed plans, sketches, and shop drawings; communicate design or technical issues proactively.
Operate additional shop equipment including routers, sanders, saws, drills, and other power tools.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining precision and attention to detail.
Maintain and troubleshoot CNC and shop equipment; oversee shop organization, maintenance, and safety compliance.
Ensure high production output while upholding quality craftsmanship and meeting quick-turn project demands.
Determine appropriate materials, dimensions, and stock requirements; optimize nesting to minimize waste.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment and work areas.
Perform related duties as assigned to support overall shop operations.
Education: Trade school graduate, or equivalent.
Experience:
Three years of VCarve programming experience
Knowledge of plastics & Plexiglas, Auto Cad and SolidWorks a plus
Experience with laminates, tongue & groove and veneers desired
Work Schedule: Normal operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
Some overtime, evenings, holidays, and weekends.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent use of hands (e.g., use of a computer keyboard, manual machining centers) and mobility.
Intact or corrected hearing, speaking, bending, standing, walking, stooping, and visual acuity.
Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform related duties and responsibilities of this job including team lifting up to 75 lbs.
Operate heavy machinery.
Must have manual dexterity.
Performance Requirements:
Work closely with shop manager & sales staff on projects
Must be able to read a tape measure accurately
Knowledge of shop practices and skill in using shop tools and equipment
Ability to read blueprints and translate into fabricated products
Manage time and projects to achieve time sensitive deadlines
Report obstacles timely to facilitate resolution
Multi-tasking and ability to manage several projects simultaneously
Able to see projects thru from concept to completed construction
Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and priorities
Able to work independently with minimal direct supervision or as a team
Team player with positive attitude
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
Regular consistent and punctual attendance
Must have reliable transportation
