    Job Description

    (THIS OPPORTUNITY IS AVAILABLE IN GAINESVILLE AND SEVERAL OTHER CITIES IN GEORGIA)

    Schnabel is looking for a construction welder to cut and join metals in our construction projects. The welder's job will be to precisely weld and cut/burn different metals, materials, and structures with an oxy-acetylene torch.

    The construction welder must be competent in the functioning of welding equipment, aware of welding safety precautions, and knowledgeable about different kinds of metal and their properties.

    Construction welders also work with a variety of hand and portable power tools such as powered saws to cut metal materials.  

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Welding of Connections (safety railing, tiebacks, internal bracing, etc.)
    • Setting up components for welding according to specifications (I.E., cutting materials with powered saws to match measurements)
    • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on the requirements
    • Shooting Grades and/or layout of work
    • Reading blueprints/drawings to take measurements and plan layout and procedures
    • Lubricate, clean, or repair machinery, equipment, or tools (maintenance)
    • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials (signaling)
    • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Be able to pass drug and alcohol screening
    • Be at least 18 years old
    • Certified welder with current certification papers
    • Have a high school diploma or GED
    • Possess a valid driver's license or other accepted legal ID

    SKILLS, ABILITIES AND BEHAVIORS:

    • Reliable
    • Able to read and write
    • Proficient in English
    • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures
    • Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
    • Able to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
    • Willing to travel
    • Safety conscious (comply with proper safety procedures) and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves, etc.)
    • The ability to take direction and work together with others
    • Professional welding certification will be a plus

    TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Ability to climb, kneel, stoop, crouch, balance, squat and tolerate heights without fear due to nature of job typically outside with often uneven and/or muddy ground; Must have the ability to exert heavy physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 50 lbs.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Work in levels of noise, dust, moisture and temperatures normally found on construction sites; Work in confined spaces if necessary.
