Step-by-Step Behavioral Health Services seeks a compassionate and experienced Therapist to join our team serving the Full Service Schools (FSS) site in the Arlington area. This position is a meaningful opportunity to support students and families directly within Arlington schools, helping them thrive emotionally and academically in a supportive, purpose-driven environment.
Clients may experience a variety of challenges, including trauma, behavioral and mood disorders, anxiety, family conflict, low self-esteem, grief/loss, and school-related concerns. The therapist provides preventive and therapeutic services to promote emotional, behavioral, and relational wellness.

Education and Experience Master's degree in social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family counseling, or related area of study from an accredited college or university recognized by the Florida Department of Education and two years of related experience in social work, psychology or counseling with at-risk youth and families; licensed-eligible in the State of Florida preferred. Applicant must be a registered intern with the Florida Department of Health working towards licensure. A valid Florida driver’s license and a safe driving record are required.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
Build strong, trusting relationships and foster a warm, welcoming school-based environment.
Conduct comprehensive assessments using approved clinical tools
Provide individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based, trauma-informed methods
Develop and implement measurable, strengths-based treatment plans (SMART goals)
Maintain a caseload of 30 clients (60 unduplicated per year)
Deliver Tier 2 and Tier 3 services according to the Full Service Schools contract
Coordinate care with internal and external providers, including DCPS and community partners
Attend DCPS FSS meetings, trainings, and contract-required events
Refer families to community-based resources as needed
Document services in Medicaid-compliant EHR systems
Participate in peer reviews, QA activities, and clinical supervision
Maintain productivity benchmarks and meet service delivery goals

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge:
Psychological, behavioral, and emotional functioning in youth
DSM-5 and trauma-informed practices
Clinical documentation, interviewing, and assessment best practices
Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication
Time management, prioritization, and minimal supervision
Crisis response and decision-making under pressure
Abilities:
Effectively engage clients and families from diverse backgrounds
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
Recognize and respond to signs of emotional distress or safety concerns
Schedule & Environment
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday (based on school selections)
Work Location: On-site in Arlington area schools (some outreach may be required)
Physical Demands: Primarily sedentary; may require light lifting (<25 lbs.)
Work Conditions: School and community settings; moderate noise levels
