Barr Transportation is seeking a qualified and experienced School Bus Driver Trainer to join our Safety and Training team. This position is responsible for training, evaluating, and supporting school bus drivers in accordance with all Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), COMAR, and company requirements. The ideal candidate will be committed to safety, professionalism, compliance, and employee development.
This is a full-time, 12-month position and is not subject to the standard 10-month school year schedule followed by many drivers.
Position Responsibilities
Conduct classroom and behind-the-wheel training for new and existing school bus drivers
Provide instruction in accordance with MSDE, COMAR, and company policies and procedures
Prepare drivers for CDL testing, school bus certification, and ongoing compliance requirements
Evaluate driver performance through ride-alongs, observations, and skills assessments
Assist with driver onboarding, orientation, retraining, and corrective coaching
Maintain accurate training records and documentation
Assist with accident reviews, safety meetings, and compliance initiatives
Support company-wide safety and training programs
Stay current on all applicable federal, state, and local transportation regulations
Work closely with management to improve driver performance, safety standards, and operational consistency
Assist with overseeing overall company safety and training operations
Must be willing and able to assist with route, trip, and operational coverage as needed to support company staffing and transportation needs
Qualifications
Must meet all MSDE and COMAR requirements to serve as a School Bus Driver Trainer
Must be certified in both classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training
Valid CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements required
Current DOT medical certification required
Clean driving record and ability to pass all required background checks and drug screenings
Strong knowledge of school bus safety procedures, student management, and Maryland transportation regulations
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Previous school bus driving and/or training experience preferred

Pay is negotiable based on years of driving and training experience
