    **Salary & Benefits: **$18.50-$20.00 to start DOE, 100% employer-paid health, dental, and life insurance, paid time off and paid vacation accrued.

    Position Type: Full-time, 260 days/year, 8 hours/day, non-exempt

    Job Summary:

    James Irwin is a network of charter schools in Colorado Springs. We have 6 schools at 3 locations and serve over 2,000 students each day. The School Facilities Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing operation of our educational facility. This position is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks, repairs, and custodial duties to maintain the overall cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the school premises. The ideal candidate should possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to creating a positive environment for students, staff, and visitors.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Routine Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning of school facilities, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and structural components.

    2. Repairs: Identify and execute minor repairs and adjustments promptly to prevent safety hazards and disruptions to daily operations.

    3. Custodial Duties: Clean and maintain common areas, classrooms, restrooms, and other school spaces to uphold cleanliness and sanitation standards. This includes sweeping, mopping, dusting, and trash removal when needed.

    4. Grounds Maintenance: Assist in the upkeep of outdoor areas, such as lawns, walkways, and parking lots. Checks for vandalism and needed repairs, as well as safety issues. Seasonal tasks may include snow removal and leaf disposal. Snow removal may be early morning before school, and the candidate will need to be flexible in scheduling during winter months.

    5. Security: Ensure the security of the school by monitoring entry points, reporting any suspicious activities, and addressing safety concerns.

    6. Supplies Management: Maintain an inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies and submit requisitions for restocking when necessary.

    7. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries. Report any safety hazards immediately to the Building Engineer.

    8. Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergencies, such as leaks, power outages, or other facility-related crises, in a timely and effective manner.

    9. Collaboration: Coordinate and communicate with other school staff members and contractors as needed to complete maintenance and repair projects.

    10. Documentation: Maintain records of maintenance and repair activities, including work orders, materials used, and time spent on each task.

    11. Perform other duties as necessary.

    Qualifications:

    - High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in maintenance or related field is a plus.

    - Previous experience in facilities maintenance, custodial work, or a related role is preferred.

    - Strong knowledge of maintenance tools and equipment.

    - Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general repair techniques.

    - Ability to work independently and efficiently while maintaining a high level of quality.

    - Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with school staff, students, and visitors.

    - Physical ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and perform manual labor as required.

    - Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if necessary.

    - Commitment to promoting a safe and welcoming environment within the school community.

    - Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
