    JOB TITLE: Temporary International Student Advisor/DSO

    DEPARTMENT: International Student Office

    REPORTS TO: Associate Director

    Pay rate: $36/hour

    POSITION OVERVIEW: Temporary, part-time (20-25 hours/week), fully remote. Serve as an ISA/DSO to process the Certificate of Eligibility, Form I-20s.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Designated School Official (DSO)

    ● Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) listed on the institution's Form I-17 in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System): provide introductory-level advisement and conduct routine business with U.S. government officials of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program; Citizenship and Immigration Services; Customs and Border Protection and others.

    ● Issue the Certificate of Eligibility, I-20 form primarily for incoming new students at the undergraduate and graduate level. This includes initial, continued attendance, change of educational level, transfer, program extension, and shortening program I-20s.

    ● Maintain accurate student records and follow standard record-keeping procedures.

    ● Advise incoming students, answering questions pertaining to their I-20 over email, phone and Zoom meetings.

    ● Participate in staff meetings as necessary.

    ● Handle other routine administrative duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    ● Undergraduate degree.

    ● A minimum of 3 years of directly related work experience serving as a Designated School Official (DSO).

    ● Accurate data entry, writing skills, strong attention to detail, and customer service skills.

    ● Cross-cultural sensitivity and prior experience living abroad or in a facility in a second language, preferred.

    ● Must be able to work well and develop rapport with individuals of diverse cultures and ethnic groups with varying levels of English proficiency.

    ● Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, be well-organized and task-oriented, perform effectively under pressure, and adapt to changing demands and priorities.

    ● Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

    ● Basic knowledge of current U.S. federal regulations and SEVIS functions pertaining to F-1 nonimmigrant student status.

    ● Familiarity with student information system Ellucian Colleague; SEVIS-batch processing software Terra Dotta; Google apps platform. Training will be provided.

    ● Interest and commitment to meeting the needs specific to international students.

    ● U.S. federal regulations require a Designated School Official (DSO) to be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident. Duties must be performed while located inside the U.S.
