POSITION OVERVIEW:
****Serves as the receptionist at the SVA Chelsea Gallery, monitoring student and visitor access, and coordinating receptions and special events. Provides administrative support to the operations manager. Manages Galleries' social media. Assists exhibition coordinators with exhibitions as needed.
SCHEDULE:
Tuesday – Saturday, 10am – 6pm (Monday – Friday during installations).
In the event of a change in SVA operations, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Welcomes students, faculty and the public, making a positive first impression on visitors to the gallery
- In the event of a change in SVA operations, coordinates reservations and visitor access in compliance with SVA guidelines
- Independently oversees the gallery and student assistant(s) during Saturday hours of operation
- Manages social media channels and updates director with monthly reports
- Interviews and trains student assistants for reception desk and events duties
- Coordinates logistics of all public and College events at galleries
- Monitors SVA Galleries public correspondence and answers general questions
- Updates various administrative calendars and manages data entry, mailing and answering phones
- Maintains professional appearance of the exhibition spaces, reception area and pantry
- Collaborates with operations coordinator in organizing student call for entries and other exhibition materials
- As needed and when possible, helps Exhibition Coordinators with installations and removals of exhibitions
- Ability to work some evenings, as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Positive, professional demeanor with a strong sense of responsibility and vigilance
- Must have an even disposition and enjoy greeting and working with people
- Superior organizational skills with attention to detail, ability to prioritize
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
- Familiarity with art history and contemporary visual arts
- Experience in managing events and ability to photograph exhibitions a plus
- Bachelor's degree required, one year of prior administrative experience preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with posting on social media platforms, InDesign,
- Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and visitor registration platforms
