    Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 250 students in grades 8–12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics, and the outdoors.

    Position Summary:

    Fountain Valley School seeks experienced and dynamic educators for a high school science position. This position reports directly to the chair of the Science department, and is responsible for teaching classes to students in 8-12 grade.

    Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

    Teaching Duties:

    • Teach 4 sections of high school science
    • Demonstrate an ability to foster sustained collaboration and professional growth within a department
    • Show an appreciation for the craft of teaching along with a passion for science as a discipline
    • Interest in and ability to teach in two disciplines (ideally ecology, and one of chemistry, biology, environmental science, or physics). In addition, an elective series in the science department is a possibility.
    • Regular, reliable in person attendance
    • Other duties as assigned

    Other Duties:

    • Coach two seasons of athletics/afternoon activities
    • Serve as an adviser to approximately six students
    • Participate in a class level retreat along with other faculty members
    • Participate in committees as assigned
    • Participate in co-leading an Interim trip (Spring experiential learning trip)
    • Serve as a member of a weekend and weeknight duty team (1 weeknight per week, and 9 weekends per year)
    • Transportation of students to and from activities using a non-CDL school vehicle

    • Experience enhancing classroom learning with appropriate technology tools
    • Demonstrate cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
    • Demonstrate skills in communication and interpersonal relations within and across multiple constituencies
    • Bachelor’s degree in a science major; advanced degree or equivalent experience in an independent boarding/day school environment preferred
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and/or obtain a Colorado license within 30 days of hire.

    Working Conditions

    • Environment: office and indoor classroom working with some outdoor events
    • Physical demands: able to sit and stand for at least 8 hours per day; must be able to lift 40 lbs.
    • Proficiency in LMS Blackbaud OnCampus and Google Educational Suite Apps preferred

    Salary: $43,000 - $60,000 - depending on experience and education
