    Our client, a leading innovator in the natural health and functional ingredients sector, is seeking a highly skilled Scientific Affairs Director to support and advance their growing research and scientific communications initiatives. This leader will play a pivotal role in shaping the scientific strategy, managing clinical research programs, and developing scientific assets that elevate the organization’s credibility and impact in the marketplace.

    This position requires deep scientific expertise, outstanding communication skills, and the ability to guide both internal teams and external partners. The Scientific Affairs Director will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that scientific research, product claims, and external communications are accurate, robust, and aligned with the company’s strategic goals.

    **This is an in person position must onsite in San Diego, CA.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee and coordinate clinical and scientific research projects with external research organizations and academic institutions, including study synopsis development, protocol design, timeline management, budget oversight, and consolidation of research findings for internal and external use.
    • Contribute to scientific manuscripts, peer-reviewed publications, and technical content in partnership with contract research organizations and internal scientific leadership.
    • Develop scientific guidance documents, customer-facing presentations, white papers, website content, and other research-based marketing assets to support commercialization efforts.
    • Create nutrition science content and scientific communications that enhance brand positioning and support product claims.
    • Build and maintain external scientific networks—including key opinion leaders and research partners—to identify new research opportunities that highlight product performance and support claims.
    • Lead grant-writing initiatives to support ongoing and future research programs.
    • Continuously monitor emerging scientific literature, competitive research, and industry developments relevant to functional ingredients and dietary supplements.
    • Support Regulatory Affairs by collecting and organizing data needed for regulatory submissions, including sample coordination and laboratory submissions.
    • Serve as a scientific resource to internal teams and customers, summarizing key research findings and their implications for product positioning and claims.

    Qualifications

    • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Preventative Health, Toxicology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a scientific affairs role within the food, nutrition, dietary supplement, or ingredient industry.
    • Demonstrated scientific writing expertise, including publication support.
    • Strong project management skills with experience managing external partners and CROs.
    • Experience planning, overseeing, and executing clinical trials.
    • Ability to work cross-functionally with marketing, regulatory, product development, and external scientific partners.
    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.

    Compensation: $120,000 – $140,000 plus benefits
