    SCISMIC.COM is supporting the growth of a biotech company that is working to automate experiments and provide the life science community more time to focus on their R&D.

     

    We are currently seeking a Data Scientist to join our growing R&D team!

     

    GENERAL ROLE:

    Under the guidance of senior researchers, you will support data management, processing, and analytics pipeline for the Research and Development team. You will be responsible for prototyping methods of analyses, implementing automated data collection and processing, as well as generating written and/or presentation-based reports for scientific and administrative review at least on a weekly basis. As part of your role, you will also liaise with the Software Team to integrate advanced analytics with our customized hardware stack.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Collating and organizing raw quantitative PCR data in a searchable format, which may include use of a relationship database.

    • Perform retrospective analyses on sample data and associated metadata for quality and for continued process development. Data includes cycle thresholds and may include metadata such as instrumentation and patient demographics.

    • Build software tools to provide near real-time analytics on sample quality and assay performance.

    • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others

     

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    • MS or PhD in data science, bioinformatics, or adjacent fields, or with significant industrial experience with biological data.

    High proficiency with:

    • Python and analytical packages including pandas, numpy, scikit-learn and related data analysis tools.

    • SQL or other relationship databases.

    • UNIX-based tools and associated command-line tools

    • Cloud computing infrastructures such as AWS.

    • Strong mathematical analytical skills.

    • Working knowledge of general statistics.

     

    ADVANCED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience with CLIA-certified operations or the diagnostic industry.

    • Familiarity with molecular biology operations such as quantitative real-time PCR.

    • Proficiency with nucleic sequence analyses such as GC content, melting temperature.

    • Familiarity with next-generation sequencing platforms such as Illumina, Pacific Biosciences, Oxford Nanopore, Ion Torrent.

    • Proficient with next-generation sequencing analyses including adapter trimming, alignment, de novo assembly.
