    ASSISTANT DEVELOPMENT EXECUTIVE, CONSUMER INDUSTRIES & MULTI SECTORS 

    SCOTTISH DEVELOPMENT INTERNATIONAL 

    BOSTON 

     

    This is a rare opportunity to start an International Business and Marketing career in the dynamic and attractive sector of Consumer Industries. You will gain an understanding of the latest market trends in Food, Drink and Lifestyle consumer goods, a knowledge of trade regulations, and an appreciation for the diverse Scottish companies we are serving. We are seeking a highly energetic, analytical, and curious individual with excellent writing skills, based in Boston. 

     

    BACKGROUND 

    Scottish Development International (SDI) is the international arm of Scotland’s economic development agencies whose remit is to support Scottish companies to trade internationally and attract foreign direct investment into Scotland. 

    It’s an exciting time to work for SDI in the Consumer Industries sector. Beyond its international reputation for premium seafood, whisky and luxury cashmere, Scotland offers a wide range of high quality, innovative produce that will benefit from our strategic support. 

    North America is currently Scotland’s biggest export market as well as its biggest source of inward investment. SDI’s Consumer Industries footprint across The Americas extends to 3 locations. 

     

    ROLE SUMMARY 

    Reporting directly to our Senior Vice President of Americas Consumer Industries, the role is focused on supporting our Vice Presidents of Business Development based in Boston, Chicago and Toronto in identifying market opportunities in the North American Market for Scottish Consumer Goods companies, and providing guidance (through research and analysis) to those companies in their efforts to generate business from North America. 

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Experience writing a blog, newsletter, case studies or articles is a plus. You must also be highly organized, detail-oriented, capable of balancing several priorities while demonstrating flexibility and creativity. Desired behaviors include maintaining a positive perspective, commitment, personal drive, a strong sense of self-awareness and passion for achieving results. 

     

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

    Supporting VPs in their Trade Support activities such as: 

    • Developing a deep understanding of market trends and opportunities in the North American Food and Drink as well as Consumer Goods markets, and how they align with Scottish companies’ capabilities; 

    • Providing market research and insight to Scottish companies to assist them with their market entry and business development strategies; 

    • Writing compelling newsletters to keep our partners informed of Scottish companies’ profiles, new products, and successes; 

    • Representing Scottish interests at appropriate sector events such as conferences and exhibitions; 

    • Updating CRM with details of all company support provided and how it has helped to deliver against SDI’s objectives;  

    • An ability to understand and translate the principles of economic development and the importance of international trade and investment within this; 

    • Offer full support role to management in preparing reports on team activity and output; 

    • Representing Scottish interests at appropriate sector events such as conferences and exhibitions; and  

    • Playing an active role as part of an integrated Americas Team working with colleagues across the geography to ensure synergy across all aspects of our business.

     

     

    MINIMUM CRITERIA 

    • A resonant approach to working with others;  

    • Excellent communication and writing skills; 

    • Professional approach and confidence to communicate with C level executives; 

    • Highly organized with personal drive, commitment, and a passion for achieving results; 

    • Ability to work across and manage cultural boundaries and diversity; 

    • Full commitment to learning the locational attributes of Scotland and knowledge of what is required for companies to succeed in international business;  

    • Ability to travel within the Americas region and to Scotland, and; 

    • Ability to work outside normal office hours.

     

     

    DESIRABLE CRITERIA 

    • Marketing, Business, Journalism, or related degree/experience; 

    • Understanding of economic development; 

    • Exposure to or experience in Consumer Industries; 

    • Proficient IT skills including a strong awareness of social media tools and techniques.

     

     

     

    APPLICANTS MUST BE LEGAL AND AUTHORIZED TO WORK IN THE US.  SALARY IS $45,604 PLUS AN ATTRACTIVE C&B PACKAGE
