Our client, a growing metal recycling and processing company, is seeking a Scrap Buyer to support regional growth initiatives throughout South Carolina and surrounding markets.
The Scrap Buyer will be responsible for developing supplier relationships, purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials, managing existing accounts, and identifying new business opportunities within the industrial recycling and commodities markets. This is a field-based sales and purchasing role focused on supplier development, pricing negotiations, and volume growth across industrial accounts, scrap dealers, manufacturers, demolition contractors, and recycling suppliers.
The ideal candidate will have experience in outside sales, commodity purchasing, industrial account management, recycling, scrap metal, or related industrial markets, along with the ability to build long-term business relationships and negotiate effectively in a competitive market environment.
Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain relationships with scrap suppliers, industrial accounts, recyclers, dealers, manufacturers, and commercial customers throughout the region
Purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials in alignment with company pricing and profitability objectives
Generate new business opportunities through prospecting, cold calling, networking, referrals, and in-person customer visits
Negotiate pricing, contracts, freight terms, and purchase agreements with suppliers and customers
Monitor commodity markets, scrap pricing trends, and regional competitive activity
Coordinate with operations, transportation, and logistics teams to support material flow and customer service expectations
Conduct regular site visits to supplier and customer locations throughout assigned territory
Maintain accurate account activity, pricing discussions, and pipeline management records
Represent the company professionally within the recycling, commodities, and industrial marketplace
Qualifications:
5+ years of outside sales, account management, business development, commodity purchasing, or industrial sales experience
Experience selling or purchasing high-value industrial, equipment, automotive, manufacturing, construction, or commodity-related products
Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
Experience developing business through prospecting, customer visits, and account management activities
Ability to work independently in a field-based sales environment
Strong communication and customer management skills
Ability to travel throughout the assigned regional territory
