This role is a big career in our company: Head of Publishing. 

We need someone who has spent many years in the publishing business, who knows it inside and out, and who can bring that experience and those relationships to this company. 

If you can walk in the door knowing pretty much everything there is to know about books, publishing, and the industry, then you might be right for this role. 

But it's not just knowledge about how things used to be, and how they are now. For this role, you will have some idea of how to make things work going forward as well. 

You see, most people--in any job--only know how to do what they've been taught. They don't actually know how to think about the real point of their role and extrapolate the principles. They don't know how to innovate and solve new problems and do something beyond the textbook.

But the right person for this role will get that. They'll know how to lead.

The Head of Publishing would (obviously) lead the entire Publishing Department. This means you'd be responsible for all aspects of book publishing:

• Book cover design department
• Interior layout department
• Relationships with distributors and printers
• Processes for printing and distributing books
• Working with our translation rights
• Being a resource for Publishing Managers on intricate publishing questions

You will be directly and indirectly responsible for the success of thousands of books, and the millions of lives those books touch.

• DEEP EXPERIENCE IN PUBLISHING: This is a role for someone who has at least a decade of experience in some aspect of the publishing business. We will expect you to walk in the door and know pretty much everything there is to know about books, publishing, and the industry. Yes, we'll have to teach you how our specific company works, but if you can't teach us something about book publishing, you probably aren't right for the job. 
• INNOVATIVE, FORWARD THINKING: I know, I know--this is not a description commonly used when talking about book publishing. But even though the industry is not forward thinking, we are, and to thrive here, you'll need to be able to at least keep up with us, if not bring a lot of your own ideas to the table. 
• ACCOUNTABLE PROBLEM SOLVER: This is not a company for people who like to play politics or have other people do their work. One of our core values is accountability, and if you aren't eager to take on tasks, solve problems and get results, this is not the right place for you.
• LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE: This role will require management of individuals and teams, so some leadership experience is required.

• COMPETITIVE PAY: $100k NOTE: The salary is not all you will make. All tribe members are entitled to discretionary profit sharing. When we say "profit sharing" we don't mean the BS "here's a tiny piece of equity that might be worth something in 10 years." We're already a profitable company, and 25% of the company profit goes to the Tribe. So every time we take profit distribution, you get a share of those actual profits.
