This role is a big career in our company: Head of Editing. 

We've grown to the size where the Editing Department is no longer a sub-department anymore. It's become its own entity, with a lot of work being done. 

But it's lacking one crucial element: a leader. 

This role is not for someone who is only a great editor. We're always looking to hire great editors, but this is a leadership role. You'll be leading and supporting a team of editors, as well as building the processes and structure of the department on an ongoing basis.

This is a role for an experienced Editor looking to build a career. To create a legacy--both for themselves, and for the people who work with them. 

The Head of Editing will (obviously) lead the entire Editing Department. This means you'll be responsible for:

• All editing 
• All copyediting 
• All proofreading 
• Setting the editing standards for the company 
• Enforcing those standards 
• Hiring and firing editors 
• Coaching and developing editors 
• Building the best editing department in the world

You will be directly and indirectly responsible for the success of dozens of editors, thousands of books, and the millions of lives those books touch.

We're SCRIBE MEDIA, and our mission is to help everyone on earth write, publish and market their book.

The problem is that writing and publishing books are, for most people, a painful and difficult process, loaded with uncertainty and aggravation. Our goal is to make it as simple as possible, so that as many people as possible can do it. 

We have multiple ways we help people do this. We can edit and publish an already written manuscript (Scribe Publishing), or we can help people write their book using a structured process with our guidance (Scribe Guided Author), or we can do a structured interview process that gets the book out of them in their words and their voice (Scribe Professional). 

And if you can't afford our services, that's fine. We give away all of our information for free. Seriously, it's called Scribe Book School, and it's better than any paid course on the internet.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS

Our company was started because a frustrated entrepreneur wanted to put all of her incredible knowledge and ideas into a book, but didn't have the time to write it or the patience to deal with the frustrating publishing process. So we solved her problem. The origin story is here.

Here is the list of skills we believe are necessary for this career. 

• EXPERIENCED & ACCOMPLISHED EDITOR: You will be in charge of the Editing Department at Scribe. This first means you have a long history of high level editing work and an impressive resume. But beyond the resume, you have to actually be a top notch editor yourself, and very good in the text, dealing with words and sentences and ideas. 
• EXCELLENT AT LEADING, EVALUATING & COACHING EDITORS: A big part of this job will be leading, evaluating and coaching other editors. You should be good at understanding what an editor is doing right and wrong, and how to give them effective feedback that helps them improve. 
• INNOVATIVE, FORWARD THINKING: I know, I know--this is not a description commonly used when talking about editing and book publishing. But even though the industry is not forward thinking, we are, and to thrive here, you'll need to be able to at least keep up with us, if not bring a lot of your own ideas to the table.
• ACCOUNTABLE PROBLEM SOLVER: This is not a company for people who like to play politics or have other people do their work. One of our core values is accountability, and if you aren't eager to take on tasks, solve problems and get results, this is not the right place for you.

SALARY & BENEFITS

• COMPETITIVE PAY: $100k NOTE: The salary is not all you will make. All tribe members are entitled to discretionary profit sharing. When we say "profit sharing" we don't mean the BS "here's a tiny piece of equity that might be worth something in 10 years." We're already a profitable company, and 25% of the company profit goes to the Tribe. So every time we take profit distribution, you get a share of those actual profits.
