    CONTENT WRITER

DO YOU LOVE THE CHALLENGE OF TURNING A BLANK PAGE INTO A FINELY CRAFTED ARTICLE?

WOULD YOU ENJOY HELPING AWESOME PEOPLE SHARE THEIR IDEAS WITH THE WORLD?

ARE YOU TIRED OF THE NORMAL FREELANCER BULLSHIT, AND WANT SOMETHING MORE?

IF THIS SOUNDS LIKE YOU, WE'VE GOT YOUR PERFECT CAREER.

We call this role “Content Writer.” You'll be responsible for writing stellar marketing content on behalf of Scribe and our authors—primarily articles, but other forms of content, too.

In addition to being an ace writer, you need to be flexible and a quick learner. One day, you might be writing blog posts for our website in the “Scribe voice” while the next day you're talking to an author to craft an article for Forbes. You'll have a steady flow of unique assignments available, which makes for exciting and fulfilling work—but it means you have to be a writing rock star who stays on top of deadlines, consistently delivers top-notch content, and takes direction well.

We're serious about that last part. One of your editors will be Tucker Max, 4x NYT bestselling author. If you can't take our input to reach our needs in the assignments, you won't last in this role.

If you're still with us after reading that, let's take a closer look at how this role will work:

For Scribe, you'll help create the best content on the internet around writing, publishing, and marketing nonfiction books. You'll do this by researching, outlining, and writing articles for our blog (the #1 traffic driver to our site, scribewriting.com).

With our authors, your work will help bring attention to their book after it's been published. Primarily you will do this by adapting their book's content into 15 written articles. You might also write shorter LinkedIn posts or hop on the phone to interview them for an exciting media placement we've landed them (like Fast Company or Harvard Business Review).

If you're really lucky (and good), you might land an ongoing assignment where you work with one of our authors every month to write articles for Forbes, LinkedIn, or media placement.

Sounds like fun, right? It is: the Content Writer role is the real deal.

But it's not even the #1 reason to apply for this job. What you should be most excited about is this: we're offering a better way for freelance writers to work. You probably started freelance writing and editing because you enjoy helping people turn their ideas into impactful words.

But how much time do you spend doing that?

Doesn't it seem like you hardly ever work with people you like on projects that you're interested in, because you're busy with the crappy gigs that pay the bills?

What about the admin work? Does it seem like all your time is spent on the tedious “business” of freelancing instead of writing? And the inconsistency. It's a cycle of famine-feast-famine, right? When was the last time you had a consistent flow of work you could plan around?

None of this even mentions the treatment. Does it ever feel like people look at you as less than human, just because you're a freelancer? They make constant and often irrational demands that require you to give everything, and then treat you like you're disposable.

Well, what if you didn't have these problems?

What if you had an essentially unlimited number of interesting assignments you could pick from, didn't have to worry about any of the admin work, and could only focus on writing—and you got the support and resources of an entire company to help you create the best possible content?

And perhaps most important: what if you got that all while still making good money?

It might sound too good to be true, but it's not. That's what makes the Content Writer role a dream freelance gig for high-level and experienced content writers. You won't have to spend any time finding clients, negotiating your pay, arguing over scope of work, getting them to actually send the check, or navigating endless revision cycles. We handle all that for you.

Whatever you write, you'll get paid regularly throughout the project based on the hours you spend working. When you're done, you move on to the next project, with your money in your account quickly, guaranteed. Yes, this is not normal, but we do things differently on purpose. But don't take our word for it—here's what our freelancers say about working with us: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6M-j3tVZN8

WHO ARE WE AND WHAT DO WE DO?

We're SCRIBE MEDIA, and our mission is to help everyone on earth write, publish and market their book.

The problem is that writing and publishing books are, for most people, a painful and difficult process, loaded with uncertainty and aggravation. Our goal is to make it as simple as possible, so that as many people as possible can do it.

We have multiple ways we help people do this. We can edit and publish an already written manuscript (Scribe Publishing), or we can help people write their book using a structured process with our guidance (Scribe Guided Author), or we can do a structured interview process that gets the book out of them in their words and their voice (Scribe Professional).

And if you can't afford our services, that's fine. We give away all of our information for free. Seriously, it's called Scribe Book School, and it's better than any paid course on the internet.

You can see some press about us here.

And you can see some of the books we've already published here.

    WHY OUR WORK MATTERS

Our company was started because a frustrated entrepreneur wanted to put all of her incredible knowledge and ideas into a book, but didn't have the time to write it or the patience to deal with the frustrating publishing process. So we solved her problem. The origin story is here.

Her book became an amazing success, and we realized the world was full of these people--smart people who should write a book, but don't, because the process is so painful.

These people want to write books, but don't have the time or desire to do it the old way, and that's why Scribe exists: we help people turn their ideas into books that both cement their legacy and impact the world.

Our process has worked for over 1500 authors in five years, and we're growing fast. Our ultimate goal is to help everyone on earth write and publish a book.

If we do that, we'll help create many thousands of books that would never have otherwise existed, changing the lives of millions of people. That's really exciting to us.

To see what we mean, here are some author success stories and videos of authors talking about what their books mean to them, and to their readers.

But if you really want to see why we do this...just watch this video of an author we worked with, Philip McKernan.

WHAT'S IT LIKE WORKING WITH SCRIBE?

We're not going to try to pitch you a load of corporate doublespeak bullshit about how great we are. Instead, we'll just show you proof.

    NECESSARY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Here is the list of skills we believe are necessary for this career.

    • HIGH-LEVEL EXPERIENCE: In order to be considered for this role, you'll need to have at least five years of high-level writing and editing experience for a publication of some kind (whether print or online). At a minimum this means you've produced hundreds of well-written articles, preferably on a variety of topics. Credentials are always helpful in your application but not required. We have dozens of excellent full-time and freelance writers without these credentials.
    • EXCELLENT WRITING AND EDITING SKILLS: This should be obvious and a given, but we'll say it: you must be a very good writer and editor. That includes having impeccable attention to detail and flawless grammar.
    • GOOD PEOPLE/INTERVIEWING SKILLS: This is the big differentiator between who does and does not succeed with us: the good writers who are also really good with people tend to do well with us. If you do well in this role, you'll be on the phone with authors quite frequently, so comfort with people and talking on phones is a necessity. What's really important here, though, is good interviewing skills. You must be able to listen closely, understand what the author is saying, and then ask the pertinent questions that ensure he or she fully explained his or her point, and extract every piece of relevant knowledge. Furthermore, you must be able to help the author fully unlock and explore their idea. Though you're not a ghostwriter and the ideas in their article are theirs only, you still need to be good at helping people flesh out and explain their ideas. There are many, many excellent writers and editors who do not succeed in our process because they have poor people skills.
    • ORGANIZED AND DETAIL ORIENTED: This is another obvious one, and if you've been successfully freelancing for a while, then this should be easy: you need to be organized and detail oriented. In addition to writing, you'll be asked to work within our project management system, which is simple to learn, but does require you to keep up to date. This is not a "free for all" writing system.
    • ABILITY TO ADAPT TO DIFFERENT WRITING STYLES: We already mentioned the obvious: you must be a good writer to excel in this role. A key part of this is being able to easily adapt your writing to match different voices and styles (which will vary depending on the assignment).
    • PROACTIVE: If you do well in this role, you'll be writing on a wide range of topics for the Scribe blog. While we don't expect you to know everything about each topic, you must be willing to take the initiative to do your own research. This includes proactively reaching out to other Tribe members for their expertise.
    • WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF SCRIBE SERVICES & METHODS: As a Content Writer, you must be willing to learn and develop a thorough understanding of the Scribe methods, services, and processes. This is not something we expect you to know prior to joining Scribe, but it will ultimately be a determining factor in how well you do in this role.

    SALARY & BENEFITS

    • COMPETITIVE PAY: $50 an hour Yes, I know what you're thinking—if you are a successful freelance writer, this is probably less than your normal rate. But, remember that the reason you have to charge $100-$150 an hour to regular clients is because you have to bake into your fee all the unpaid time you spent finding the client, negotiating your deal, admin work, etc. Working with us, there is none of that unpaid time. What most freelancers find is that though the hourly rate is a little less with us, they actually make more money in total, and their quality of life goes up because they are doing less work that they don't like.
    • BE PART OF A TRIBE: This role is intended to begin as freelance, but there is real potential to move to full time, given you want this and you do a great job. We see ourselves as a tribe of people who are working hard together to accomplish a specific mission (help everyone on earth write, publish and market their book), in service of a larger purpose (help people share their story and leave a legacy of impact on others). We also have a pretty cool set of principles that we live by as a tribe, you should check it out, because this is the operating system for our tribe.
    • FREEDOM: You can work from anywhere—we don't care. We only care that you have reliable phone and internet connections and that you do your job well.
    • FUN & FAST-PACED WORK: We don't have boring days. Some are hectic, some are hard, some are incredibly rewarding...but they are never boring and never exactly the same. That's what happens when you're solving real problems for people.
    • WORK WITH INTERESTING PEOPLE: Past authors include major company CEOs, famous entrepreneurs, professional athletes, and people with amazing personal stories.

    APPLICATION EXPECTATIONS

One last thing before you apply: this is a multi-step application process that is long and involved. We don't do this to annoy you, and this is not a wasted, bureaucratic effort—we do it because it's necessary. We want to find great writers who excel at writing the type of copy our brand needs to support the growth of our company and our mission.
