LOCATION: Norfolk, VA

OVERVIEW OF POSITION

Scribekick is seeking highly motivated applicants to join our medical scribe team that focuses on preparing you for a career in medicine. As a medical scribe, you will accompany your assigned physician during patient visits. During the patient visit, while the physician examines and speaks with the patient, you will chart directly into the electronic medical record (EMR), in real time. By doing this, you ensure the accurate and timely documentation of the medical chart. This position reports to the assigned Chief Scribe.                                                            

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Accompany physician and patients examinations and document patient information into the EMR during the patient encounter (history, chief complaint, review of systems, physical exam)
• Successfully operate the EMR to input documentation
• Document any procedures performed by the physician
• Documents patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.
• Concentrate on the needs of the provider throughout entire shift
• Exhibit excellence in medical terminology and billing & coding knowledge in all documentation
• Understand and observe legal concepts, such as HIPAA, confidentiality, etc.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Passion and long term interest in the medical field with dedication to succeed
• Able to grasp new concepts quickly and efficiently and work as part of a team
• Strong and professional written and verbal English communication skills
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills with high attention to details
• Ability to accurately collect, record, document information
• Uphold customer service by anticipating needs and feedback 
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations, as well adaptable to providers needs
• Computer literacy, efficiency, and troubleshooting
• Must have reliable mode of transportation to get to and from work and available to commit one year with daytime office availability 
• Maintain professional appearance, conduct, and policies at all times

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous EMR experience and healthcare experience, volunteer work, internship, research, etc.

• Typing test score of 55 wpm

• Currently not enrolled in degree

• GPA of 3.5

• Previous coursework, not limited to, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, biology, chemistry in a health related major

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this position, a Medical Scribe is regularly exposed to standing for long periods of time, excessive typing, viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time, and light lifting of equipment during the patient and physician encounter in an office environment.
